So I decided to watch a random anime show from Netflix out of boredom...

Seriously, what is wrong with the creators of shows like that? Is this a common occurrence in Japanese anime?

The show was basically an excuse to show panties everywhere....

I just felt like I needed to watch the entire episode just so see what weird things they could come up with next....

...and why would I want to watch drawings of panties and boobs when I can watch frames of film captured from real females? or better yet... a real live female....

Fan Service

Fan service is the act of adding something with no direct relevance to the story or character development into an anime (or manga) for the purpose of pleasing fans.

The most common form of fan service is the addition of scenes of scantily clothed, seductively posed, well-endowed women, or something similar (panty shots), also common in anime and especially manga aimed at female readers are similar situations involving male characters.

However, fan service does not have to be sexual in nature. Other forms of fanservice include gratuitous amounts of detailed mecha transformation scenes, mascot placings and so-on

Ichigo 100% is a perfect example of this

Don't ever watch Green Green, then. Seeing closeups of panties is the least of your worries watching that.
*shudder*

I was coming in here to ask if that was the specific anime he was referring to.

Me too.

I think it's known as Battle Vixens in the US..

Could also be Eiken, though I'm sure he would've mentioned the ridiculously over-sized breasts wafting in the breeze if so..

edit: dear god, why am I admitting that I'm so knowledgeable about these things...

I guess you are being sarcastic, but anime is more of a medium then a genre. I don't really watch anime much anymore (the exception being Naruto and Bleach, which I want to see play out until the end), but I've seen enough series' to realize that they can vary from childish to more mature adult drama. This applies especially to Japanese anime, where the manga and anime have been mainstream for longer than in the United States.

Cartoons were originally intended for kids and adults to enjoy, and the U.S. moved away from that paradigm with the advent of film cameras.

Yes, I was being partially sarcastic. I don't find anime to be interesting in the least. I watched a handful a few years ago and it definitely didn't hold my attention. To each his own though.

lol Ichigo 100% starts off with a dude obsessing over a chick after seeing her strawberry-clad panties... so that one might be exempt because it kind of ties in ;).

Was Eiken actually released in the US? I know it was never finished in Japan, because no one would complete it or pay for it or something like that. The best part of that show (yes, I have it and have seen it) is the Yogurt slide lol.

Hi 'fiend!
It looks like you aren't getting your PMs so I need to stalk you in forum threads like this .

This is just to remind you that you still need to take care of your donation matching pledge for Childs Play 2008, so I hope the mods won't view this as calling you out.
