I was trying to install a quieter HSF combo onto my fileservers cpu. I get it installed after a lot of work (cheapie heatsink fans! Not very intuitive, no instructions). No post... no beeps.... just fans whirring away....."sh!it" I say:|. And I thought this would be a quickie upgrade. So I start removing parts reseating memory, plugging unplugging. But still No post... no beeps.... just fans whirring away..... "sh!it" I say:|
So I guessed it was a mobo problem, so I take out a spare motherboard, still no post. So I think it's the CPU, so I take out a spare cpu, but use it on the original mobo... my mistake, and still... no post. Now I'm into hour 4 of this ordeal, and by this time I'm cursing, pulling out hair, throwing screwdrivers, and randomly curling up in a ball to cry just a litte.
So then I says "Fvck it might as well build a new fileserver using the spare parts I was using to diag. the problem. I get the parts together, and guess what?!?!? No post... no beeps.... just fans whirring away....."sh!it" I say:|
What was supposed to be a quick 10 min max "upgrade" has now turned into a 6 hour ordeal with 2 Athlon XPs toasted.
I think I'll cry myself to sleep
tally of hardware used:
2 motherboards
2 processors
3 sticks of ram
3 power supplies
2 cases
4 HSFs
3 cdroms <--shows how desperate I was getting
1 bottle of compressed air
and a partridge in a pear tree.
