I don't think they're moving to a 6 month refresh either. I think they released it so soon because they wanted all their flagship products using the new, expensive cable. I believe they go back to the annual ~March release.

So they are going to release 3 ipads in the span of 12 months? They could forego an update entirely in 2013 and release a new one in 2014 as well.

However, as always with any product, you always buy when you need it. If something new rolls out in March they usually let you return/exchange it with 30 days anyway (did this with an iPhone and Airport Extreme).

It's not about the features. When the new one comes out the one you bought instantly drops in price. So in other words you wasted money. It's like getting an iPhone 4S the day before the 5 launched. The price went from $199 to $99 after the new launch.

Well if you want to jailbreak (as all iDevice owners with any geek cred should) you're gonna want to get the 4 before apple patches the jailbreak exploit in their next OS update. That's why I just got a 4.

If I said they're going to release 2 iPads in the span of 6 months there'd be the same kind of doubt, but it happened didn't it? At this point post-Jobs I don't really know what to expect out of Apple anymore.

And as far as the iPad I just bought being trumped by one coming out - bah. I know that. I've been in the tech scene for a long time, been a member here for 13 years. I figure a new one will come out soon. And of course prices will drop on whatever, so I'm cool with it.

I'm talking to the wifey now... ;)

We have the first ipad still (free from wife's work) and I hate how almost every time I pick it up to move / go somewhere I accidentally hit the one and only button there is on the face. Couldn't they have put the button somewhere where you're not likely to put your thumb when picking it up? Or at least color it something other than black cause I use it in darkness mostly while getting the kids to sleep. I thought Apple was king of UI!

Thread delivers. Way better than the free iPad threads. I third KDOG nomination for elite. You're a lucky man.

I think you're just screwed because you have the original iPad. The iPad 2 and beyond use the whole smart cover thing, which may seem like a trivial feature, but it is rather handy! In that case, you wouldn't hit the button every time you go to pick it up.

Har. Nah, wouldn't do that. This is as racy as she's comfortable with, so that'll have to do. ;)

I am not sure why, but this ^^^^ reminded me of:

Would you rent an iPad for $100/month?

If people have more money than sense by all means, buy what you want when you want, but I figure most people aren't like that and prefer to be informed when they could easily save ~$100.

That's assuming the iPad 5 will be available in March/April.

What happens if it gets pushed out to June? Or even later?

I love my ipad 3. It was pricey, but well worth it IMO. I mainly use it as an Internet browsing device. My wife takes over it all of the time so I'm pretty sure that whenever the next one is released ill buy it and give her this one.

Is that the $15 cover accessory? I'm talking about just shifting my body & the ipad after being in an uncomfortable position on the bed while watching... I'd pick the thing up for a brief second to move it slightly and accidentally hit the button. They should've put it in a corner imo.

I already got new glasses that are kinda on the trendy side. So how long before I'm sitting at a Starbucks with a cappuccino and reading Chomsky?

It's too late. You've succumb to Hipsterfication.
