So I caved and got an iPad4....

I already got new glasses that are kinda on the trendy side. So how long before I'm sitting at a Starbucks with a cappuccino and reading Chomsky?

Expensive. Even though the screen and processor are better, I still prefer the mini because the size, aesthetic design, and price are much better.

True, it wasn't cheap (32gb version). I blame the wife. She had a revealing top on whilst encouraging me to get one. Yeah, that's it .... Dang women.

Obligatory post about how you should of waited since the new model will be out soon...

Well of course! It will be like .00025" thinner which will make all the difference in the world and this one will now be obsolete! There was kind of a comic about this somewhere. Poor guy was living in a dumpster with his iPad or something....

You can't wear all that stuff because you didn't buy it to show your superiority, you bought it because you wanted it. Sorry, you failed the hipster exam.

im going to be buying an ipad shortly but there is a new one rumored to be announced this month or next, so i think im going to wait.

It's not about the features. When the new one comes out the one you bought instantly drops in price. So in other words you wasted money. It's like getting an iPhone 4S the day before the 5 launched. The price went from $199 to $99 after the new launch.

yea but then he wouldn't have it for 1-2 months that he's waiting. i'm not in a rush to purchase one which is why i'm waiting. my primary use for it is going to be to control my HT but for the time being i can just use my phone.

Would you rent an iPad for $100/month?

If people have more money than sense by all means, buy what you want when you want, but I figure most people aren't like that and prefer to be informed when they could easily save ~$100.

that analogy doesn't really make any sense. he's not giving his ipad back when he's done with it, nor is he going to be paying $100/month since he already bought it. it's also a rumor that something new is coming out, nothing is confirmed.

many people have an extra $100 of disposable income per month. no need to try people have more money than sense just because they can comfortably afford to spend $100 when you can't.

Yeah I didn't offer a good analogy. My point was that by waiting a month, he would have saved $100. So in other words, getting that iPad 4 one month sooner cost him an extra $100. That's a lot of money for just 30 more days of use.

Of course this all relies on Apple's tradition of launching new iPads in March. I think the 4 was released very quickly because they didn't want their flagship product using the old style connector.

Meh, I might go for an iPad 3 after the newest one is released. Still has the retina display, and the price will drop pretty drastically with the release of the new one.

My man-hands are too big for the mini.

I think there were multiple reasons to change the release cycle to late-in-the-year.

  • There's a new product out in each line in time for the holidays
  • Processor is updated across multiple product lines
  • Major iOS updates are deployed across all products (helping to avoid insane branching like what happened between iPad 1 and iPhone 4)
  • Other technologies are deployed across all product lines simultaneously (Lightning, etc)

Just because one iPad update happened sooner-than-expected, rumors have run wild about there being some accelerated refresh cycle (6-7 months). I think it's just not true. It doesn't make sense for Apple and it doesn't make sense for consumers. Apple will simply update iOS devices closer to the end of the year. I think ATV will be an exception again this year.

I don't think they're moving to a 6 month refresh either. I think they released it so soon because they wanted all their flagship products using the new, expensive cable. I believe they go back to the annual ~March release.

Does apple still do the tradition of refunding the difference if you bought an iPad one month before a price drop?
