Solution: Went to Wal-Mart and bought a 12V cordless for 40$(Which is a piece of shit I might add). Will use it for the stuff I need tonight, return it tomorrow and buy the 40$ one from Sam's.

The way I figure it, they're the same damn company, and the products cost the same amount.. They're not losin' anything. ;) lol

Yea, but are you really going back to Sams now that the drillin's done?, I doubt it, you probably going back to Harbor Freight to get another since HF is even cheaper that Sams. I really wish WM would change their return policy so scammers can't do this. You have to check everything you buy at our local WM since some will buy, replace parts with broken ones and return to store...

No, I am. It was my intention to buy the one at Sam's, but they were closed.

I'm not scamming anyone by abiding by the store's own return policy.

I also contend that nobody would be hurt if the store changed their return policy. They're still going to take returns, they should just scrutinize them better.

I'm not scamming anyone. I'm not sticking rocks back into the packaging and trying to return it.

Bought a cheap spare pc from them once while i was waiting on parts to fix mine.

It had 7 user accounts already on it and enough spyware and virii to make it almost useless. i spent 4 hours getting it to a point where it was halfway usable. When I returned it to wal-mart I felt like charging them money for cleaning it.

Bought an openbox dvd player from Best Buy earlier this year and it had a porn dvd in the player... Woot! Free porn

People used to return Christmas trees to Home Depot after the holiday until they finally said No mas. I'd say that half the power tools that were returned were used and 99% of the bolt cutters as well.

Reminder: Legal != Ethical

Buying something, opening it and realizing it is a piece of crap and returning it is ok. That is the point of satisfaction garuntees. Certain companies are willing to take a loss on that item in order to keep the customer happy.

Buying something with the INTENTION of using and returning it for a FULL refund, how is that ethical? This even goes beyond ethics, and skews into illegal. How? This is the definition of fraud. For your reference from merriam-webster:

1 a: deceit, trickery ; specifically : intentional perversion of truth in order to induce another to part with something of value or to surrender a legal right b: an act of deceiving or misrepresenting

And as wikipedia so eloquently puts it: In the broadest sense, a fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual.

The premeditation and intention is what makes it wrong.

you are abusing the system... if you need tools for tonight... borrow a neightbors, or rent some...or even go to lowes / homedepot.

the bigger problem here is that while it is not illegal per the stores policies, you fail to see what you are doing is wrong ethically.

Aren't all MILFs used?

Some more then others. :)

I once bought a keyboard at Walmart. Just run of the mill pos $8 keyboard. Well a few of the keys were working intermittently after a few days. So I return the keyboard to Walmart. The CSR at the returns desk tells me I can't return it because the CD is missing.

I was like WTF? It did not come with a CD. She insisted all computer peripherals came with CDs. I asked for a Manager. Manager was just as lost as the CSR. I asked for an associate or the Department Manager from electronics to verify theis with another keyboard. Finally after 30 minutes and the Department Manager going through other keyboard boxes determined that it doesn't have a CD with it.

yes walmart tools suck. they are cheap and tend to break under real use.

i seem to recall th at Craftsman changed like 5 years ago. a lot of people told me not to buy them new. instead go to auctions/garage sales and get them. they have a lifetime warrenty anyway. BUT if i was dead set on new get err. damn can't remember the brand heh.

Yeah, much of the stuff I have bought at Wal-Mart has had evidence of being used.
Seems many people treat Wal-Mart as a rental place.

Never buy condoms there.

and you lie a lot too.

You talking about this?
http://auctions.samsclub.com/s...nfo.asp?LotNo=80005518

That be the one. Weird, never seen the sam's club auctions before. Are you saying they normally go for like 25 bucks? lol

To everyone flaming me - Seriously? Is it that big of a deal? I don't even think it's unethical.

1) I'm abiding by the store's own return policy.

2) Even if the company just puts the product back on the shelf, which IMO is much more unethical than what I'm doing, you won't even be able to tell that it was used since I'm saving all the packaging and such. It won't even have a scratch on it, I just need to drill like 3 holes in some plastic. It will even have a full charge! ;)

3) I'm not going to lie and say that it doesn't work or anything like that, it's simply inadequate for my needs, which is true.

4) Like I said, I'm buying another 40$ product from Sam's. Everyone wins! ;)

5) Really, I don't care. It's Wal-Mart. It's not my fault they're asshats and could put a used product back on the shelf instead of sending it back to the manufacturer like they should.

:beer::)

Edit: And yes, I realize both cordless drills are trash. The one it's replacing is a 14.4V drill from Harbor Freight. It's served me well for several years, so apparently I don't require much in a cordless drill.

Although the 12V one from Wal-Mart is exceptionally shitty.

my gfs mum once bought a vacum cleaner, used it to vacum fine glass which tore its insides apart, and returned it the next day.

And got away with it

New VCR?
Wow. That means you havent been to walmart in a LONG time. But I know what you mean.

I wanted to get a small air compressor for household chores, not the least of which was filling up my cars tires. I found a nice little 1 gallon tank with a buttload of attachments for a mere 50 dollars. But the box was torn wide the fuck open and I could tell pieces were missing. Asked the hardware guy if they had any others in the back. He said no. Asked if I could get a hefty discount on this one since it was obviously not in good condition. He said no. Politely suggested he move that one along to their damaged goods shelf so their system would order more replacements and I could buy a new one some day. He said he'd talk to the manager about that.
NINE MONTHS LATER! I go back and that exact same broken unit is still sitting there.

When I look as the assloads of mexicans shopping there (and I do not mean mexican-Americans, I mean mexicans) and almost none of the employees speak English fluently I realize that walmart is no longer the place for me to shop. Its their store now and the ads, products, employee attitude and customer treatment all reflect that.
The downside for me is that Target is a long way from my house.

I put a big smiley face on an XBOX 360 game once because I picked up the XBOX with the disc spinning in it.

I went to Wal-Mart, bought the same game, swapped the discs, then returned it saying it didn't work and got my money back.

LOL.

Well it's good to know that most of the unethical tools are confined to Walmart/Sam's Club.... Yet another reason to avoid those shit holes.
