i open the case the morning of the job and there's freakin grass inside the case and a couple sockets had definitely been used. i can't take it back cause I purposely let my car sit overnight so it would be cool when i work on it. so i fix my car then returned the socket set to walmart and told them it had been used before i bought it.

I initially had no intention of returning it after I had used it because that would be unethical but since they were used when I bought them I figured what the hell.

when i buy something new i expect it to be new. even if everything is in working order, the fact that it's been used makes me believe I should get some sort of discount over new.

Its fucking losers like this you can blame for ending up with a used product on the shelf. Why should walmart take a loss because people use them as a rental agency. Its even worse than rental, because they do not pay a thing.

Walmart, what do you expect?

lol...wal-mart haters...what do you expect?

Based on Walmart's return policy and morans that work there, not checking/inspecting stuff before putting it back on the shelf, I'm sure that this happens often.

I once bought a new VCR at Walmart. It was dusty, scratched and had a blank tape in it. So I took the tape, made a secret mark on the box and returned it. I went back 2 days later and the box had been resealed and put back on the shelf as new. That was the last time I bought anything at Walmart.

Heh.

Funny this comes up. Story: I can't find my god damn cordless drill, and I need to do some light duty drilling tonight. Sam's club has a 24V cordless drill for 40$. Unfortunately, they closed at 6pm today.

Solution: Went to Wal-Mart and bought a 12V cordless for 40$(Which is a piece of shit I might add). Will use it for the stuff I need tonight, return it tomorrow and buy the 40$ one from Sam's.

The way I figure it, they're the same damn company, and the products cost the same amount.. They're not losin' anything. ;) lol

What's even funnier is that your girlfriend says all the drilling you do is light duty.

Yeah, much of the stuff I have bought at Wal-Mart has had evidence of being used.
Seems many people treat Wal-Mart as a rental place.

Never buy condoms there.

I've been told by a few different people (who I trust about this kind of stuff) that Walmart is a bad place to get tools and that Craftsman is worth the money.

It's OK, it's not like he's going to get a deal. Neither of those drills is worth anything anyway.

I guess you never shop at one of the smaller WalMarts where they pretty much are the only place for many things.
People buy things there because they need something right away, and test it out.
If it's not to their liking they return it and make the 38 mile drive to where there are other large stores.
I had a friend who worked the return desk. He said he was shocked at how brazenly people returned things that had clearly been used.
I specifically remember him saying pots that had food stuck on them, a fan with built up dust on it, and a shirt with sweat stains.
One day he got curious and took returned can of spray paint to the shelf and picked up an identical one. The returned one was so light in comparison he guessed it was nearly empty.
