So I bought a pair of Ray Ban Aviators that turned out to be fake(pics included)

49 is a lot for fake though.
i mean i wouldn't pay more than 20 dollars for those.

issue with fakes is the price, if you know you are getting fake and you get a really cheap price then fine, but 50 dollar fakes? way over the line.

Nice fearmongering. Many of us regularly walk around outside without sunglasses.

Yep, and your eyes naturally constrict your pupils to limit all light going into your eye.

Since your eyes react to visible light, sunglasses make they dilate. UV still happily walks through. Logic is sound, and since I like expensive things, I'm not going to complain.

Not the best source, but I can't find the one I read it from in 10 seconds from Googling:

I didn't know they were fakes when I bought them. They were being sold as genuine Ray Bans. Considering that I can get a pair new from Amazon for $83.00, $49.00 seemed about right. Yes there was the possibility when I bought them that they were fakes but Id be covered under Ebay's buyer protection policy.

Pretty good knock off. Seems the fake ones have more glare, but otherwise damn, I don't think even I would have noticed. Good catch.

Anyone mind telling me why real Ray Ban Aviators are so expensive? They are non-prescription, so they can be mass-produced.

Star trek next generation 49disc box sets on ebay are 99% fake.

Fakes that you will find all over ebay:

Real Version:

Chinese knockoffs are getting too good. I am sure most people don't even know they are not genuine. :-(

For DVDs I see less of a problem then with sunglasses.

After all, a 1:1 digital copy is a 1:1 digital copy and eBay gives you plausible deniability.

Except that most are DVD5 instead of DVD9 and you may as well have stolen it for free online.

I don't understand why ANYONE wants pirated crap in their collection. If I spend money on something, I want it to have REAL value, which is why I prefer physical copies of software instead of legal downloads that I can't resell. If I ever wanted to sell my game or DVD collection, I would need originals and not pirated copies. Pirate copies are worthless so DO NOT spend money on it.

Because they're a popular brand name.

Not a good enough reason, IMO. If you are willing to spend more than something is worth just because it's popular, something is wrong with you. Me? I'd rather let my money make a competitor a bit more popular.

Same reason Diesel jeans are so expensive? Brand name, fashion icon. Gas stations have Aviator copies for $15, and even the gas stations are making money.

That's nothing anyways. My glasses right now were $450: $320 for high-index, scratch and anti-reflective coated Nikon lens and $130 for the cheapest frames I could find in the store that weren't hideous. So should have went to Costco, f*ck supporting local business...

Meh, it's a luxury. Why buy a $1000 LV (?????) bag when you can buy a nice messenger bag from the local bookstore for $25. Let's not get into video cards?

The counterfeit discs are 4gb single layer while the real versions are 7gb dual layer discs.

I bought a pair of new Ray Ban Aviators off Ebay last week.

There's your problem... don't be a cheap ass and just buy your Ray Bans from an authorized retailer. And no... some typing on ebay that they are an authorized dealer does not magically make them one.
