The DLP's color was lacking. This plasma screen really jumped out at me. It's very bright and very colorful. It doesn't come across in the photograph, of course.

Go to Best Buy or Circuit City or whatever and look at the difference in a rear-projection TV and a plasma. There's just no comparing them.

Nice set...I want to get a new one one of these days. I'm still running a 27 inch media display made by princeton graphics... It's a CRT and huge. I need to get a flat panel or projection in the 42-60" range.

While I agree (the colors on a plasma set have more "pop"), size does matter. Sitting 7 feet away from a 42" set vs. a 61" set are different experiences. Buy the best set for your viewing distance.

But those sets are configured in a sh!tty way. Some look good some don't while sharing the same crappy feed. At least the ones I've been to.

Uh, oh, here comes the alpha nerd to try and make me feel bad about my new TV. Trust me, it's an improvement and I didn't feel like spending any more than I did. As of yet I don't regret my purchase, and if I do, I can return it with no questions asked within 30 days.

Actually the Alpha nerd probably uses a 15 inch monitor for his computer and a 19inch TV bought at k-mart for his familys viewing pleasure....rofl

Isn't gaming on a plasma a no-no due to burn in?

Oh Christ

Yes, coupled with the fact plasmas only last about two years.
:disgust:

In all seriosness, play all the games you want on a plasma. 360 looks awesome on a plasma - the colors are incredible.

Heh, that was my point to my roomate. I bought the TV, but I did want to get his input because he's going to be watching it too and whatnot. He was big on the plasma, but I was concerned about the size. I really would have liked a 50", I think that would have been just about perfect. It was also considerably more expensive.

I sit right at 12' from the TV and it's far enough away that I don't get that up-close pixelation look, but it's still a nice size.

On a bad note, my poor 24" Dell LCD looks like crap now. :p

Edit: In reference to the gaming, from what the guy at Best Buy said, they run demos with static icons on the screen for 10 hours per day with no problems. Even if I did get a burn in, the TV has the ability to "wash" the picture.

I've done some research on plasma displays, and while it's still possible, burn-in isn't nearly as big of an issue as everyone says.

great TV. I was looking at getting a plasma but I wasn't sure if I liked how it looks like there is a glass screen in front of the image.

I ended up getting the 42" 1080p for 1500 from best buy during that weekend sale.

LCD, DLP, RPTV > Plasma
Weak sauce, congrats though.

Since he maxed his budget on the TV, what cinema surroundsound systems would you suggest for only a few hundred?

Yet, he won't put up a pic of HIS tv because he's using his mom's 27" RCA console.

I went with the Samsung LCD.

No, he has a point. Newer sets have burn in protection, but it's usually a "burn in clearing" utility that you have to run once in a while.

I guess

Onkyo HTIB for the easy route.
590 on a very tight budget, 790 for a bit more

Alternatively pick up a budget receiver, a dayton sub, and some speakers that are on sale (like Infinity Primus at CC right now, or Polk R-series when they go on sale at fry's) and put together a system.
(Athena Micra would be another option)
