So, I am looking at a fm transmitter solution for my ipod

I do not know why I have denied myself the pleasures of an ipod for so long. I am finally gonna crack and get one. My buddy has the itrip and I like the whole idea of no external powersource for my fm transmitter. In a perfect world I could keep it in my pocket the entire time, and listen to my music/talkshows clearly in my car, or walk around whatever house i am at with the ipod in my pocket listening to it on the house stereo. Even cooler would be to have one that transmitted 50 ft. Me and my bud tried to drive close to each other on a road trip and I listened to his iPod from my car. neat stuff. I soon realized that this itrip is not the strongest fm transmitter in the world.

My question is:
You guys are tech savvy and probaly have already faced this problem. What are my other options? I do not want to run an rca cable to the back of my alpine, but i realize that it may be the only way i can get sound without static. Keep in mind, this is not an audiophile question. 128kbps mp3s are a-okay with me. I just can't stand static. So, can I geek up my own fm transmitter? I'm sure there is a geek grade ipod fm transmitter already on the market. What do you guys use?

Well, I have not decided on what model yet. I would almost base my decision for what model by my fm transmitter options. I do not need more than 20 gigs. I would like to get either the 4th generation or the iPod mini.


Anyone else got some input?

Yea, thats what I understand. It sure would be nice to have a wireless one. Keeping with the whole 'keepin' it in your pocket' idea.

Maybe i just can't have my cake and eat it too. Whaddya guys think.

Which iPod model are you going to get?

I found something which I think you will REALLY like but first I need to know which iPod model.

Don't expect to get enough range to use it between vehicles, unlicensed FM transmit power is limited by law & they are quite weak.

Only draw back (well main one anyway for me) was the channel selections on the FM Transmitters. Usually they have 4/6/8 options and in crowded cities those can all be subject to stations broadcasting over what you picked.

There was at least one that let you select ANY channel, that would be nice for a long trip where you can move it around in case you go through some noisy areas.

If you are only going to use it in one vehicle you can by an FM Modulator that plugs into the antennae port on the radio directly, a bit more work to install but with potentially better results.

Good point viper, that was kind of a pipe dream. I just want 20-30 ft of WORKING/non-static tunes.

Anyone else got some input?

on another note, whats a good way to clean the white touch wheel on the mini? I have a screen protector and a case, but the wheel is always exposed and is taking on kind of a dark color

Get the one made by Monster Cable - see Amazon for reviews. It's a bit more expensive than some others but the quality is worth it, and it charges your iPod as you drive.
