Are you laughing because they thought they owned a PC and you don't have the heart to tell them it's a Mac, or that it'll (supposedly) run slow?

dude... I ran 10.2 on a B/W G3 with a 600mhz G4 (overclocked from 550) ZIF and THAT was slow as garbage... I can't believe 10.4 even let you install on a system that old

nah, I've had XP running great on 200mhz P2's before....

I'd liken it to XP on a <100mhz system

You'd compare OS 10.4 on a G3 iMac to a XP on a <100mhz system?

Fvck no. However, if the iMac doesn't have much RAM (which it very well, may not) then it will run fairly sluggishly. If it has at least 256MB, it should be OK.

Um, 10.3 runs perfectly fine on my G3 iMac (500) w/ 512, ran just fine on my G4 Powerbook as well.

10.4 runs on my G4 cube (it's only 450mhz :()

Got 512 memory in her though...

It works just fine but I can't play videos in quicktime or anything like that... not enough speed...

I bet that Mac was running stock RAM, etc, meaning it would be veeerrrry slow. OS X needs at least 512MB to run smoothly. OS X is a ram-hungry OS, I'll admit. I have 1.25GB in my Powerbook and it's served me more than well. OS X will run fine on sub-1ghz machines, as long as you've got some beefy RAM in the machine.

As much as I love my PC, I like OS X better than Windows. Although I downloaded Tiger for several friends, I never have had a chance to use it yet. We're going to install it on our studio G4 and Mac Minis this coming school year. What's funny is I've supplied our program with iLife05, Tiger, two copies of Final Cut Studio, Office 03, and CS2, and our teacher doesn't even realize it. He thinks we're able to do all our good production and effects with stuff he's bought. Can't wait til June 07, when we uninstall all that sh1t.

G3 iMac could mean anything between 233 and 700 Mhz/32 and 256 MB stock RAM, 2 and 16 MB VRAM. So your friend may be lucky... or not. I run OS X on a 450 Mhz/512 MB RAM/32 MB VRAM system and consider it long term usuable, but I fear OS X is going to melt the graphic card of the poor iMac ;)
