I have been having some pain in my lower back and hip on the left side that travels down into my leg. Some friends suggested that a chiropractor would help. I have always been skeptical of them.

Has anyone been to a chiropractor? Describe to me what will happen.

i went to my massage therepist one time (a deep tissue massage) and it ended up fixing my backpain.. turns out my spin was not in alignment.. by giving me a deep tissue massage that fixed it.. but seriously a chrio helps..

They will crack you neck, adjust your back, put these electric nodes on your back, put a massager to it, and possibly put a heating device on it....all in that order.

Chiro's have kept me going for 20 years. Pain radiating down the leg could be a herniated disk. It's generally called Sciatica, as it comes from the sciatic nerve being pinched. COULD be something a chiro can help, but in worst cases, surgery would be needed to relieve the pressure on the nerve. Only an MRI will tell that.

If you found a good one you should be excited. There is two different ones that I've been to. One local and one about 1.25 hours drive. They both do more than just chiropractic though. They have both saved my family a great deal of pain. Best of luck to ya and you can PM if you want more info on what I think better chiros will use. Oh, one charges $70 and the other $32.

I've been going to a chiro since before Xmas, found a good one where I live. My brother-in-law up in Michigan usually adjusts me, but, I don't see him often enough. 😛

The chiropractor here in Dallas has helped me tremendously, a good one will do the job, you'll feel great. I recommend it. I started developing neck problems, if I would of waited, I could of had serious issues. He's is definitely helping.

Good luck! 🙂

once you start going they will keep you coming back.

did you get a referral from your physician or just decide to go to a chiroquacker on your own?

I have been going for about 3 years now, and it works wonders. I have a tendancy to sleep in a strange position and get my neck out of place, and rotate something in my lower back that causes me severe lower back pain for about 2-3 minutes after i lay down, and going to the chiropractor helps tons. Not necessarily will you feel better the second you get adjusted, alot of times you will, but if not, give it a day usually, and you should feel better by the next day.

I am lucky ......... one of my best highschool friends is a Chiro 🙂

He's helped me with wrist (carpel tunnel) and foot problems.

This is exactly the reason why you shouldn't go even for the first time. He/she will make you feel better by cracking your back and you'll feel the need to return to him every time your back starts to bother you again. perhaps a neurologist would be more in order.

He takes care of you, huh? But how are his wrists now?

um... well, the electric nodes = ultrasound.... it's for neuromusculotherapy.

not true. the rule of thumb is that the number of years you've had the problem is the number of months you'll have to be treated to fix the problem.

also, it's up to the patient whether or not they want maintenance/wellness care (those are for the people who want to keep their body in allignment to help promote their optimum level of health). some people DO have to go to the chiropractor for the rest of their life in order to live with a condition they have, but that's not everyone.

what would a neurologist be able to tell you that a chiropractor couldn't?

my advice for you is to RESEARCH. don't just take any chiropractor in the area that's on your insurance. ask around, call around, etc. find out who the BEST is.

chiropractors are just like any other doctor out there... there are bad ones and there are good ones. you don't want to waste your time and money with bad ones who'll just bullshyt you and not treat you like a person or patient and, rather, as a dollar sign.

i'll pm you tomorrow with some good ones in your area.
