Been using Google Toolbar, Earth and Chrome for as long as I can remember. But every good things came to an end when they stop providing disable option from auto-update from all their software. Just what the heck were they thinking? Even MS wouldn't dare to pull this on cusotmers! I don't necessary need the latest, greatest version, i just need something that works. So bye bye Google...it's been nice flirting with you.



 
I don't like Google software for that very reason, & others...

You can kill the auto update crap via services.msc though.
 
Unfortunately stuff like this is necessary to idiot proof software, people wouldn't update manually. You're sure there's no way to disable auto update?

Maybe contact Google about it and suggest that in future versions they provide the ability to diable auto updates. I think Google is generally pretty perceptive to users' concerns.

Or in the case of Chrome it's open source, so you could compile a version of your own with this feature disabled. 😉

Besides, whats to worry about autoupdates? That all of a sudden Google is going to update with a super spy patch and turn Google Services into GoogleSkyNet?

I wouldn't care. Google will probably be just the company I help welcome into the SkyNet role. :laugh: 😱

They can set auto-update as default, I wouldn't mind. But there is gotta have an option to disable it, it's too annoying...even anti-virus software gives users that option.

I don't mind autoupdates, but I could see how they could potentially suck. What if they release an auto update that changes features (i.e. GUI or functionality) that you need/like and you have no way to revert.
 
You must be young if you can't remember a time when you didn't use Chrome.

I basically don't use any Google applications besides Google Maps via the web site.
 
You'll take my Google Earth when you can pry it from my cold, dead hard drive. Or when they start charging for it.

I must be old then, cause I've heard of Chrome but have yet to use it.

I hate auto updates too. Sadly, that's what it's become. You can't open your computer nowdays without having some sort of software wanting to update or begging you to update it. Even simple software like acrobat and flash. WTF? Why does it need to be updated so often? Code it one way, test it, stick with it at least for a few months. Java is bad too. Almost any java site you go to, you need to update java or flash, or something else.

Not a huge deal in a home environment, but in a corporate environment it's a pita. User 1 wants to go to site A, and it works fine, user 2 wants to go to site B, and needs a newer version of flash, and calls help desk to get it installed. Now you have two versions of flash, which one is corporate standard now? Then user 3 comes along and needs java for some site, now you have another version of java, now some other app this user uses wont work anymore, now you need to find a work around.

Why have all these different updates and versions? Do it right the first time, and stick with it. Then once every 6 months, introduce a new major version for new features and what not. Would make so much more sense if they did this.

Speaking in general here, not just Google software.

Windows PC's get riddled with Malware because of all you losers surfing the web and downloading trojan invested software from bitorrent with full f--king admin rights. Then blaming it on MS because you're too stupid to understand the basic security differences between Win98 and XP.

The more ridiculous thing is...somebody actually gives you a paycheck for working in the IT field when you should be on the unemployment line. BTW - a Firewall *isn't* a content filter either.

As for Google Apps, the interfaces are so horrid I can't believe people actually use them, but they are free. I'll stick to Open Office, thank you very much. Gmail is the only E-mail app that makes Lotus Notes seem ergonomic.
