that sucks OP. glad you didn't have the effects kick in while you were driving.

i call shens because how do you accidentally take an ambien instead of an aspirin? does the op have a ziplock bag with various white pills inside? how do you NOT know what pill you take?

It's happened to me before. I meant to take some B5 pills just before bed, but instead i took 2 thermogenic pills loaded with caffeine. I was tossing and turning all night, and didn't realize what i had taken until almost morning.

Yep... I didn't know what I had done until last night. My wife and I were talking about it trying to figure out why I felt the way I felt. At first we were thinking that maybe I had an "Ambien trip"... but I had never head of that happening to anyone else.

I kept saying "it was so weird... it was just as if I had taken an Ambien, but all I took was an aspirin".

Eventually I decided to count the Ambien pills... and wouldn't you know it: I was one short.

Yep... the timing was fortunate. I started feeling funny right as I got to my desk.

I haven't tried Lunesta. My doc put me on something called Rozarem before we did Ambien, but it didn't do jack.

I'm glad I don't have trouble sleeping at night.

Glad you weren't behind the wheel when it kicked in too!

So can we conclude that ambien has solved the sleep problems you posted about months ago?

LOL. Reminds me of the time I had a headache and was generally cranky one evening at about 8:00pm and my wife offered me one of her "happy pills"t hat her doctor gave her for "monthly" moodiness. I said no, I didn't want to to take one and a small argument followed, in which just said "I took one before and it didn't do anything" to try and get her to drop it. I asked for two tylenol and the brought me two small blue pills...

Well, all I remember was playing some WoW for about 20 minutes, then I woke up upside down in our bed at 10:00am the next morning, with absolutely no recollection of what happened. I assumed I got up and went to bed and just had a rough night, but she told me all about getting up from the PC, mumbling about something to eat, wanting to watch some porn, laughing hysterically at some TV show, falling asleep on the couch, her waking me to get in bed and my amorous, yet slurred, advances on the way there.

Man, those things are like 8 shots of tequillas and a blunt all packed in a cute blue pill!

I wonder what 1 Ambien and 5 No-Doze would feel like.
A heart attack.

Yep. The Ambien doesn't work on the same part of the body that No-Doze does. Your brain would go to sleep, but your heart would explode.

Thanks! We're tring to determine how best to get off the Ambien at this point. While it does work very well, I'm sure it's wreaking havok on my liver and/or brain. One thing I might try is weaning off the Ambien with a 50mg dose of Trazadone. The Trazadone helps to calm the nerves, and insomniacs typically get very nervous when they try to go to bed (mostly due to a fear of becoming frustrated).

The original plan was to just use Trazadone, but I said "look, we're done experimenting... I need sleep NOW. We can worry about a longterm solution later!".

That's pretty much what Ambien is like, too. There have been nights where the Ambien hit me faster than I could react to it, and the next morning my wife has had stories where I've carried on for up to an hour. But, as I stated earlier, the moment the effects hit you your memory retention is jack.

When I take Ambien it doesn't make me tired, I have stayed up for 2 hours watching TV. But once I do fall asleep I'm out for 5 hours and wake up refreshed. Works great when I travel overseas or when I arrive late at a hotel (when I have difficulty getting decent sleep). Next time I'll ask for 10mg, it would work much better if it knocked me out.

the drug manf have a funny sense of humor. i have ocd/anxiety among other things and take xanax for it and have for years. my wife has add and took ritalin for it. one morning i am taking my meds and accidentally took one of her ritalins instead of my xanax (they are the same size and close to the same color, so are the lower doses of oxycontin....)...needless to say i had a bad day. i was buzzing around like a nut and what really sucked is that it was one of the extended release ones.

LOL i did that once too. I meant to take an allergy pill, but i took an extra dose of ritalin accidentally. The allergy pills are in a tin foil package too that you have to punch out, but when i was reaching into my bag, my mind must have wandered and i was going for my usual ritalin dose.

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time between your last meal and when you take the Ambien. They say you can take it with or without food, but for some people - including me - that's not true.

The shorter the time is between dinner and Ambien, the less effective it is for me. I've found that if I wait at least 2.5 hours from the last meal, it's much more effective and will kick in at around the 30 minute mark. If it's been 3 hours, then the Ambien will kick in very quickly (10 - 20 minutes).

The times when I've taken it within an hour (or even 2 hours after a heavier meal), it's pretty much totally ineffective.

How do you mix up ambien and aspirin? The differences in bottles and pills didn't give it away?

Ambien

Aspirin

Granted, your aspirin/advil/tylenol/etc and ambien may resemble each other than the examples here but again, I think it's a sign of bigger problems if you don't even know what you are taking. I saw the post about putting the bottles in different parts of the house, but, still I wonder.
