A few weeks ago, we bought about 5 cases of professional editing boards for the A/V lab at school. I finally got around to ordering the power splitters required to work the things into our POS Dell Optiplexes, so I went ahead and installed one today on my "break"
I learned a few things.
1) Dells don't like it when you have all the PCI slots the AGP slot, all the drive bays, and more than all the power connectors populated, but they'll boot anyway
2) Dropping your peanut buttered bagel onto the serial number sheet is never a good idea
3) Even when you buy combos of hardware and software, apparently Canopus wants you to fill out 5 seperate registration cards. I just put on the S/N stickers, address labels, and left the rest to be filled out by "the man".
4) I hate software that comes in sealed envelopes.
5) Letter openers are weapons and forbidden in school
6) A 6" cooking knife, however, is acceptable for opening envelopes
7) There's always 1 more CD than you thought there would be.
8) There is no greater satisfaction than turning a POS into a finely tuned editing machine.
9) It'll probably crash spectacularly tommorrow
