So how much were S939 Athlon64s and mobos when it first launched?

The other day, my Athlon XP system finally crapped out on me, the capacitators on the motherboard (EpoX 8RDA+) started to leak. Fortunately for me, I've been planning to upgrade for a while. But I made a mistake when I bought my Athlon XP system, I bought it at the end of Socket 754's lifetime. So, yeah, I don't want to do the same thing again. When Socket 939 was launched, how much did the CPUs and mobos go for? When did decent mobos start coming out?

I have my laptop to tide me over until I upgrade (oh, Mobility Radeon 9700, how I love you), so it doesn't have to be until Oblivion comes out...

CPUs were very expensive, it only launched with high-end chips (3800+, FX-53, and 3500+ I believe).

More affordable CPUs trickled down.

There were decent MBs at the beginning, though the good/better ones arrived a couple of months later.

AM2 is launching with a X2 4200+ if i remember correctly, and that'll probably be ~$300 at launch. There's also sigle core CPUs, but who wants that?

when s939 came out (i couldnt afford it then) there was originally just AGP mobo's out, ~$150 and the lowest speed and cheapest CPU was the A64 3500+ which was $300-350 from what i remembered. Then again, who wanted to do all that and then go switch mobos once pci express boards were around and good.. I honestly doubt the ddr2 will be worth the expense(i wouldnt do it). though if you want, wait it out for just a few more months and decide, there is nothing wrong with waiting, it will just drive s939 prices down further ( i hope)

you definatly wanna wait for socket AM2 to come out. if you'd buy a system now, you'll be buying it at the end of sockets 939's lifetime (meaning no faster procs will come out for socket 939, but the ones out already should be available for quite a while.) i belive AM2 is comming out 2nd quarter somewhere?

i dont know how much those CPUs and Mobo's went for but there should be multiple available at launch, so that the prices should be comparable to mobo's and CPU's out now.
