It seems like suicide is a way to escape the silence, being alone with our inner self that we hate so much. We're so caught up with doing, so absorbed in the material, that we don't know how to just be, and that's what frightens people into considering suicide.

It's funny, I was just watching Dr. Wayne Dyer on PBS right now, great guy. One of the things he said was "give up your past", embrace it, learn from it, understand it, and then throw it away. All the things we've experienced in life are what we had to go through to get where we are now. If you stop living in the past and start living in the now, you'll realize that the sky is the limit and suicide is beyond even considering.

When all the sh*t hits the fan at the same time, I'll get depressed for sure, but I've fortunately never considered anything nearly as harsh as suicide.

I think it's because I have a complete aversion to anything like that. I can't explain it; it's like a physical repulsion. It gives me the "willies" and creeps me out to think about it.

I'm glad for that. It means I don't ever have to worry about seriously considering suicide.

But what I have learned is that it ALWAYS gets better. Sometimes it takes longer than I would hope for, but in the end, I'll always have a moment where I'll think, "I'm glad I'm through that, and I really feel that there is something worth living for out there." It's like the light at the end of the tunnel. When life craps on you, you have to realize that you're not the only one being "mistreated." Everybody goes through this. NOBODY has a perfect life, no matter how it may appear to others. Everyone has their personal demons. But what I've come to realize is that depression is never permanent. You won't stay down forever. The thing to remember is, don't do anything too drastic to yourself while you're down. You WILL make it back up.

Giving it more thought, I'm reminded of an Iranian film I saw recently called Taste of Cherry. It's about a Muslim man contemplating suicide, driving around looking for someone who he will pay handsomely to make sure he is dead and then bury him. He finally meets an old teacher who reluctantly agrees to help him because he needs money for his sick child. One of the things he tells the wouldbe suicidee is a parable in the form of a joke: a man goes to the doctor and complains that every part of his body he touches hurts, his head, his stomach, his leg, his hand. The doctor examines the man and says "my friend, your finger is broken and your mind is ill". Don't let problems pervade your entire being.

I've come close a couple of times, even wrote a note once, and had the pills ready. Both times were due to regrets. Regrets that weighed so heavily on my shoulders that I just didn't want to bear the weight anymore. Both times during college at night, alone. It sucks, let me tell you....it really...really sucks. But, one of the most important things that you can ever learn is that life goes on. Looking back at those times, I can't believe that I almost gave up on something that was so meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Long story short, don't sweat the details.

<< enough that i tried, but failed >>

I dunno if you'll call it trying and failing, but years ago I sat on my bed with my rifle loaded, but simply didn't have the balls to pull the trigger.

I'm doing it right now.

It's been a daily thing for the last 5-6 years.
