So...how good are razer laptops? Razer Blade 14" AMD 5900HX?

I have a 2020 Blade 15 and it tops the list for laptops that I have owned.
The Blade 14 is a new design, so experiences with existing models won't necessarily be indicative of how it will perform. That being said, it is using vapor chamber cooling, so in theory you may be able to compare it somewhat to something like 2021 Blade 15 Advance. At the same time, that would be comparing Intel to AMD CPU, which we all know is definitely not apples apples for thermals.

Bottom line (imo): Take any opinion about it, positive or negative, with a grain of salt since these things aren't on the market yet.

I have this laptop. It is quiet and fast. The only downers for me are:

  1. It is a fingerprint magnet.
  2. The charger is heavy.
  3. The memory is fixed, and timings are terrible.
Please let me know if there is anything you would like to know and I will try to respond. I have the 3070 model.

I have a 2019 Blade 15 Advance, and it's been great. My only complaint is that I didn't go with the Oled screen. That's on me though. I put a skin on it, to avoid the fingerprint issue. I'm waiting for Apple to come out with their M1x Macbook pro, then the Blade will go to my wife.

This is a big problem, these OEMs are choking their laptops with cheapo garbage ram:

I plan on getting a skin for it. The screen isn't disappointing, but you are right. I wish it had an OLED screen.

Meh, just manage your expectations. It games wonderfully. Runs everything I play at max settings, usually at close to 100+ fps. I didn't even really buy it for gaming. I have a desktop that I do my gaming on. The laptop is for when I'm not at home (I still go to LAN parties and stuff at my old age plus when stuck in a hotel for business travel it gives me something to do).

yeah i mean i think it would still be a marked performance upgrade over what i have now.

Sooo a coworker of mine brought it to attention that we have a deal with dell. I can get a g15 Ryzen 7 for significantly less than a razer blade 14. Would the Ryzen 9 be that much better? It seems like I'd be getting 90-95% of the performance for about 60% of the price

That's something only you can decide. What's more important, bucks or performance?

after mulling it over, i went with the Dell G15 Ryzen 7. It's just such a bargain for the performance. It's also more upgradeable, having an extra M2 slot and swappable ram. My current work laptop is a 14", and the form factor is nice, but I don't think sizing up to 15" is going to be a big deal. 17 (or 19 😱) would be too big though for sure.

i also looked at the Asus Zephyrus G14, which is in the middle of the Dell G15 and Blade 14 3060. I don't think there's a bad or wrong choice here, actually. But I couldn't justify the premium on either the G14 or Blade 14. And since this is my first performance laptop, the money I didn't spend can be put towards a) extra warranty, b) HDD/ram upgrades, c) accessories (cooling pad, USB hub, etc)

i got it on uber sale during Dell's "black friday in july" sale. including the extended service period, i paid $1200.
