So how do you like my new doggie?

Very nice dog! They are incredibly smart and have way more energy than most people can deal with.

An ex-GF of mine had a BC and it was also very intelligent. It also never slept, apparently. :Q It keyed on ANY movement in the house. A result of hundreds of years of selective breeding, I'm sure. So essentially, when I woke up at 0300 hours to pee, it would circle me 5.34 times per second, barking and biting at my feet. Shutting the bathroom door only pissed it off as it would wait patiently outside the door. When I opened the door it would restart it's orbit/barking around my feet.

I got pissed off a few times and tried to stomp on the damn thing. It was way too fast and I just wound up smashing my foot against the tile floor...hurt like fuck.

So good luck with your little space alien doggie. Lemme know when you're tired of not sleeping.

On the plus side, not too many dogs fetch the ball, drop it in your lap, take it out of your lap, run it back to where they got it from and take it back to your lap in 3.2 seconds.

Oh, you're gonna have so much fun...

very cute dog, i have a border collie too. you will be surprised how much they teach themselves. wait until she opens the door by herself turn on the water outside and bring the hose inside to impress you.

LOL! I hope she doesn't bring a running hose inside! Amazingly she sleeps thru the night with at most 5-10 min of whining when we put her in the crate. I give myself a big pat on the back for keeping up with the crate training as the previous owner did. Crate training is the way to go. She likes it apparently, its like her little hideout.

Border collies rule. I have a 10 year old BC, got her at 10 months. I love that dog so much, she is great, I couldtell you stories all day. most important is training and you will have a great dog. Be sure to give her plenty of exercise, and mental stimulation. I have taughht my dog many tricks to keep her mind occupied and out of trouble. do some research and reading and you will have a rewarding relationship with your dog. you can do herding trial, agility or flyball for fun and to keep your dog from getting bored. I hike a lot with mine

here is a link to a BC site where I learned alot about border collies.http://www.bordercollie.org/bo...9fa4d45cdebe7493ffe21&. the people there are mostly about working border collies, ie sheep herding but many are just into border collies for pets. just dont mention if you want to breed your dog as most of them believe BC's should be bred for their working abilities and not because of someone who thinks their dog is a show dog or because the owner thinks its a awesome dog. i guess the working ability, health and brains are being bred out of BC"S due to shady breeders who are in breeding for the money only.

good luck with Daisy, btw my bc looks like yours but her right eye is blue. i'll try to post a pic later.

eta: if you can afford it look in to a reputable trainer in your area.http://img.photobucket.com/alb...pearlspop/DCP_0378.jpg

..great dogs. they like to keep their people together in tight groups when walking around. expect a nip in the ankle if you get out of formation.

We had a half BC half chow mix... it was like the evil split personality dog. She would herd the local children, keeping them in neat tight groups (the kids loved it) but would occasionally get a chow moment and decide 'I'm a carnivore, and here's a nice little herd of plant eaters... I'll just eat one.'

Once this habit because obvious and we couldn't retrain her, back to the shelter she went.

But from all we'd heard and read, the border collie is a very intelligent and trainable dog. We just weren't able to get her to be BC without getting in touch with the inner chow.
