Well, called my insurance and it's 100% covered as long as the doctor that does it is in-network. They gave me the name/# of one nearby that I will be calling on Monday to schedule a consult and hopefully from there an apt for the procedure.

In the mean time, I'm going to see what I can find online about the doctors and try to ensure they won't screw shit up.

Hard to screw it up. It's a pretty trivial procedure.

2) It's obviously Mother Nature, and she hates men. Otherwise, testicles would be inside the body, or else the scrotum would have its own skull, instead of a very thin layer of skin.

Mother nature doesn't hate men, she just loves the children more. To my understanding, if your testicles were inside of you, then the spermies wouldn't function right, or something like that

(plz excuse my comma beating)

Yeah, still would rather just double check to protect my nuts from getting anything other than no baby making stuff done to it.

I've had several friends over the years who had vasectomies...with great tales to tell.

One guy, afraid that his junk wouldn't work right after the procedure, went home, and while still under the effects of the novacaine, proceded to "knock off a piece" with his wife. Ended up with a major infection that put him in the hospital for a few days.

Another guy, completely ignoring the doctor's instructions to "go home and put your feet up for a couple of days," proceded to go on a 2 day horseback trip into the mountains. (after all, it's just a tiny cut...what harm can it do? )
By the end of the first day, his balls had swollen to the size of cantalopes, and he STILL had to ride out of the mountains the next day. He spent a week in his recliner with his balls on ice and a large bottle of anti-biotics.

I'll keep that in mind to follow the docs instructions

It'll be like the dinner bell was to kids back in the day, except it'll be for 18+ hot females who need to be "fed"

Horseback riding? I thought I was manning up when I went to work later the same day. Horseback riding?! Holy shit!

Just don't do what I did and walk out of the office (waddle more like it) and say "Thank God I don't ever have to do that again!!!". Two months later, I was doing it again as the doc missed something the first time! :Q

Update 9/28: Called the insurance, it's 100% covered as long as it's with an "in-network doctor". They gave me a list of some docs. Called one today and have the consult scheduled for 11/5. Can't wait.

Now lets just hope that they perform it even though I'm 23...

IMO the reason "I don't like kids" is a bullshit excuse for someone who doesn't want to deal with condoms / birth control / safe sex and just wants the easy way out.

I'll still be using condoms for safe sex reasons.

I hope you aren't doing this because of a pregnancy scare or believe in those rumours about crazy women that will steal sperm out of a condom and impregnant herself..

Yes. I know that it's always possible that my views could change. I can't really begin to express how against kids I am though (kids of my own that is). I've never wanted kids, don't understand the appeal, don't want to spend the $ on them, and I would rather spend my life on other endeavors.

I am not doing this because of a "pregnancy scare". I am doing it for many reasons, but one of them is that I don't enjoy sex because I spend the whole time worrying about knocking the girl up. I've had many girls claim that they were "knocked up" after breaking up with them, just to get back at me (that was a few years back FYI).

Yes, I'm young. Yes, I could change my mind one day. Yes, I could regret the choice later in life. But you know what else? I could be perfectly fine, and think it was the best decision of my life. Living life worrying about "what ifs" is no way to live life. You make decisions and live with the consequences of those choices. This is a choice I have made for myself, because I feel it is right for me. I understand it's a very unpopular decision among most people who have kids, but it's the right choice for me.

I'm getting one. So, how do I go about it? I don't have a PCP currently, so do I need one of them to give me a referral to a specialist? What do I need to do to actually get this done? I will pay out of pocket if need be, but will be looking into insurance for it so I don't have to pay out of pocket.

Those of you who have gotten one, what was the process?

How the hell are these procedures covered under insurance? Sad state of the world it seems :(

Seriously? Insurance pays out maybe $500 for the outpatient procedure. Giving birth equates to about $25,000 for a routine birth at a hospital. You do the math.
