So how are you liking Win10 so far?

I think he is using Windows Feedback. He's just reporting on it here for our benefit.

FWIW I haven't had any of the mouse problems as stated except (sort of) when using Spartan. Spartan just likes to ignore my mouse a lot, especially when I highlight a text window. In particular, it likes to ignore mouse wheel input.

@CZroe... might be a good idea if you used the Windows Feedback instead of Anandtech forums for issues you find with an OS in a alpha state.
I am using it, but there is plenty we can do by discussing it here. We can see who it affects and why (everyone with 1366x768?).

There's nothing that we can do but agree that it happened to you. 🙂
I disagree. If something works for some and not others then it could also lead to work-arounds. When others confirm the problem following the same steps then they can add their voice to Microsoft's Feedback form too where they otherwise might not have noticed. There's a lot of reason to discuss our experience in a thread specifically asking what we think about it. 🙂

It is a leak, after all. Did you get your .iso from a relatively-reputable source?

as reputable as is possible with a leak. Have low-level formatted that drive (WOW!!) and just now finished up Drevitalize testing. No errors at all. Beats me what caused the problem but I am waiting for a good release before trying it again.

I'd say "WOW!" too if you truly LLF'd that drive. Somehow, I doubt it. 😉

Low level format? Is this an SSD? If so, secure erase is pretty simple and takes a minute to do...just FYI.

Installing a leaked ISO and going "it didn't work" is also kinda silly.

10 is ok. I could deal with it if I had to, but I still prefer 7.

I had a thought when I heard 10 would be free. That is, How would people react after they get the free upgrade? All those people on win7 and earlier will make W10 the new "most hated operating system ever". Not because W10 is horrible but because I think the concept of plug and play is slipping a little bit. No canoe, No paddle. just a lot of gnashing of teeth towards Microsoft.

What is slipping?

What is slipping?

Quality. Be it patches, drivers or bioses. 22 updates for me today and I'm waiting a few days. 5 years ago there didn't seem to be any risk updating, ever. Maybe it's my imagination, maybe it's having more icrap(generic) gets me more issues. Maybe the focus on mobile is taking the good people who otherwise would be working pc's with it.

There has always been risk on installing updates, and if you mean are saying Win10 seems unstable, it IS a unreleased OS and you should judge it as such.

Well, I did what the program author described as an LLF. Sorry I am not on your level, obviously. http://hddguru.com/software/HDD-LLF-Low-Level-Format-Tool/

Was it an SSD? If so, I repeat my previous comment: what you did is not only a very inefficient way, it'll kill the drive if done repeatedly.

A proper way to clear an SSD to an "unused" state is a secure erase (which I believe is an ATA command from around 2000 that SSDs implement) and is implemented such that it applies voltage to all NAND blocks resetting them without writing to each individual bit.

Some SSD manufacturers (Intel, Samsung) offer tools to do an ATA secure erase in Windows; for the ones that don't, GParted can be used.

No, it was not an SSD. I overlooked your question due to your "silly" insult.

There has been very little difference between leaked builds and "released" builds so far... at least with respect to stability. 10056 is the first build that screwed up my hard drive. Reporting that hardly seems silly as there are many other folks installing that leak. There were a great many folks having such troubles with earlier "released" builds.

The drive is not permanently damaged and is functioning fine now.

Has anyone else here gotten the latest Win10-exclusive Catalyst drivers from MS (dated 4/1/2015)? I just got them, and when they hit, they somehow screwed up my monitor's ability to accurately detect the intended desktop resolution.

The desktop is set to 1280x1024 in the OS, but the monitor was interpreting the resolution to be 1024x768. I ended up with a squished, blurred desktop that was not sized properly to the screen. I had to roll back to get rid of the problem.

So has anyone updated to 10061 yet? I finally finished the download, and the install crapped out on me with 0xC1900101-0x4000D - unable to install update. I got that error after it rolled me back to 10049 and I booted to that version successfully.

Never had that problem on a version update before, I've been updating since build 9874 or so . . . (the one before 9926).

I'm on 10061 now, after a smooth upgrade from 10049. On 10049 - It was actually a massive pain to install for me. After fiddling about with it for two days, I finally managed to get it to start installing but it hosed itself and I had to make a fresh install.

Huh, seems like the build update system needs a little more work. Or maybe not since they won't really be using it for the commercial product.

At least I was able to roll back successfully. Time to redownload (urgh) and give it another try. Wish I had found the .esd files before it installed and made my own .iso out of it.

In my Hp Dv5 1245 i went to updates and changed from SLOW to SPEED and there was an update for build 10061,it started to download,i left pc for a few hours when i came back still had same build 10049,nothing was installed, maybe because i had changed from SPEED to Slow after build 10061 had started to download,
one only gets next build if one changes to SPEED instead of SLOW in the updates options, eventually will get all the builds in notification from MS when the next build is full operational,i'm gonna wait for notification from MS that build 10061 is available and there after, this way i'm sure the builds will work properly.

I'm on 10061 now, but only because I found an iso. The update hasn't worked for me since
10049. I thought running in a vm might be the issue, but I guess not.

I have to say some of the folder icons look terrible. Like two bit color and designed by a child.

Win 10 is ok, but not something that will leave the competition too concerned. From what I can see it's just Win 8.1 with a start button.

That's exactly what it is. Except now that god awful start screen that everyone got pissy about in 8 is now shoehorned onto the start button.

There are some other little things that 10 is doing too that I don't care for. Like trying to replace the Control Panel with PC Settings. If they can pull it off that's ok but knowing Microsoft it will be a half assed implementation just like it is in 8.1.
