So how are you liking Win10 so far?

Never upgrade an OS between major versions. Ever. Clean install it with the latest fresh drivers. You can get the strangest issues if you don't.

I have a work machine that dates back to a 64bit clean install of Vista. I don't doubt some funny things can happen and maybe I've been lucky, but I've got 4-5 different work machines ranging from VM hosts to build machines and upgrades work fine.

thanks guys, R.A - so i could just install the final over the preview and carry on. avoid having to reinstall everything basically

Sure. I still don't advise it. While I think upgrading from one *released* and *final* version of Windows to another *final* version is fine (say, Windows 7 SP2 to Windows 8 RTM), I don't advise taking a Beta, pre-release, preview or any other version and using it prime time, or upgrading it to the final release. When Yosemite released, I wiped my developer preview build completely off my hard drive and did a fresh install on my macbook.

i cant recall what i did the last few OS releases but i did dual boot the vista and win7 betas and were stable enough that i used them full time. vista especially was a godsend compared to XP.

Windows 10TP build 9888 officially leaked.

*First things first, restore functionality. ie; Classic Shell (still hard blocked)
& Remove metro programs

It has also come true that 6.4.9879 is going to update to 10.0.9888 (so far in leaked version anyways).

Anyone looking to download the leaked 9888 build of Windows 10TP, BE WARNED!
There could possibly be virus', spyware or malware in a copy floating around.

The possibly infected copys have sha1sums of: d31e75e0bc2fdeee517b2514b37eb7cfa6a88505 &

4f1609e39f1a067ae00d39c3eed7b099ede83c07

If you have this copy please run a virus/malware/spyware scan!

I don't know if this is a MS thing or what, I'm not going near it.

Everything not Metro works great for me. Feels like a big improvement over 8.1.

Metro apps have been hit or miss for me. Some work, some don't.

So has anyone here had problems installing Win10? I have a 9860 .iso and am trying to do a USB install to a spare hdd (machine has no working DVD/BD drive). Installation will commence, but it keeps halting because it thinks it needs some media drivers to continue with installation that it can't find. I've tried the thumb drive in 2.0 and 3.0 slots and with different configurations, but nothing has worked yet.

edit: might be a corrupted .iso. Guess I'll redownload and get 9879 this time.

Download it from MS, and make sure to check the SHA1 file hash to verify the file is intact. DL only from sources containing microsoft.com in the URL 🙂

Don't Like it.Just waiting for official one.hope for the best(in my dreams)no matter what.other os are starting to get better. every time MS mess up they make sure to go one step further.

Did you remove any other disks attached to the mainboard?

No. There's only one drive installed at the moment since my normal HDD(WDBlack) is completely disconnected. I'm putting a Windows install on my old 7200.10 for some benchmarking. There's really only six things attached to the system:

spare HDD
USB stick
PS/2 kb
USB mouse
USB 802.11g wifi
VGA monitor

(I did try pulling the wifi stick, to no avail)

I really don't want to pir8 anything so I went with the most-free Windows install right now which just happens to be Win10.

I think the file I got was corrupted. Shows what I get for trying to bypass MS's EULA grabbing an ISO. Oh well! If they want to spam me then so be it. I'm glad I used a spare HDD in any case.

The EULA gets you when you boot for the first time anyway...there is no way you're bypassing unless they modified the build (and I would never touch a modified build. Who knows what else was changed...or added.)

True. Really the only thing you avoid by trying to grab an ISO from outside of their program is that you avoid giving them an email address, and you can always punt on the program later if you want. So no big deal.

Just semantics, no? If they called it SooperGroovySystemWhacker, and it included everything needed, it shouldn't make a difference.
Agreed, largely. There's no telling how (first and third-party) applets are to be handled going forward, whether all settings will make the jump, or if CPL actually will live on as a ghetto for uncommon settings. Regardless, I expect this go over pretty poorly for the crowd here on AT.

It should be said, however: Another Windows, another Control Panel. 😉

With the 9901 leak it looks like the many Store Apps are going to be looking a lot like the XBox Media apps.

Testing Win10 here at work. Some observations.
Text is really nice and sharp in win10, better than win7.
Metro theme is fugly. Yuck.
Login into the domain is glitched. It tries to auto log in for some reason gotta keep hitting enter at the welcome screen until is throws an error then enter my correct password.
Those goddam metro apps constantly use resources. Uninstall them all, sports, news, photos etc..

I haven't come across that issue at all. Weird.

What username is it trying to log on with? I've seen an issue before with an autologon being set by my domain admin.

Heh didn't dare to try it on domain, but at my home PC, it always wants me to log in as the 2nd defined user.
