So, hard drives DO affect in-engine performance

2 questions:
1. What error are you getting when trying to install Windows onto the 3tb? Are you disconnecting the other drive when trying to do so (hint: you should)?
2. Are you seeing a solid hard drive activity light when frame rates drop (as opposed to occasional flashing)? That would be the indication that the hard drive is causing your issues. If you are not seeing this, your issue is something else.

1. No error message per se. You know when do a fresh boot from Windows disc and it shows all the partitions? Well when i click on the 2.72tb partition it says Windows cant install there. The only one it lets me install on is my 500gb hd's partition. Thinking my SATA controller might be borked.

2. Will answer when i get home from work

About the 3TB issue: You have a mobo with a UEFI BIOS, and you have your DVD configured for UEFI boot, and you are using a UEFI-enabled OS install disc?

Guys,

I just got home from work, turned my PC on, and now I have a blue screen

*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
*** The system has halted ***

you are way out of line here

WAY out of line? I see what is going on here. Seems to be that you just make a huge deal out of everything. I was not WAY out of line. I may have needlessly entered the thread and offered nothing of real value in your eyes but my initial comment actually had a lot of merit.

I stated that you had 2 threads that you were making a big deal out of normal variances. Way out of line.. lol.

I am not experiencing normal variances. My PC is not running right.

Do you have anything to offer here in the form of help? If not, please go away.

whoops, missed a couple posts.

Seeing that you are having other problems, it looks like there is definitely something going on.
hmm.

Well, did you call your hardware vendor for support?

In all serious though, I would set any suspect user setting to default in the BIOS and try stability tests. Do that first before swapping out or removing hardware.

Oh, and check your event viewer. There are probably some good informational nuggets in there. You can also try going through and updating drivers.

Trying to install Windows 7 on the 3tb hard drive now, I get the message

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition. See the setup log files for more information."

Make sure the hard drive is on the Intel controller, not the Asmedia controller. Make sure the SATA mode is set to AHCI.

If it still won't let you (it should though), after that change, see if it will let you make a 2 TB partition and install on that.

The best I can tell, the Asmedia connections are up by the power supply connection, the Intel connections are all at the bottom (gray for sata 3, black for sata 2).

You are probably going to take this the wrong way, but it needs to be said: put this thing in perspective:

A $120 SSD will give you read/write speeds about 1000% faster than what you are getting with your WD Black.

You are arguing with people (who are trying to help you) over a 2% difference.

There is nothing wrong with your computer in this respect.

OK

So now I am running only the 3TB

My Unigine Heaven score is back to 851

so now I am going to go back to the 500gb and test it again alone

and then I will test them together, and report my scores

i will run the benchmark 3 times in each configuration and post my scores
