So guy..which computer speakers are the best for music listening?

My old monsoon speakers decided to go bad on me after years of good service. I am gonna miss their crisp and sharp sound generated by the flat panels 🙁

Do you guys know who currently makes the BEST computer speakers for music listening and DVD watching? I primarily listen to new age and instrumental music so clarity and sharpness is a must...

budget is $400 max and it is preferably to be 5.1

Or 5:1's if you have the space ... Some reviews rate Logitechs better sounding, but my old Klipsch system was great, too bad I don't have space for it now.

Headphones FTW. With maybe a DIY CMOY headphone amp.

Otherwise, I'm not that good in audio, but I liked the altec lansing mx5021 2.1 speakers 🙂

You could easily get a set of 5500E digitals for that price. Awesome, awesome sounding speakers, and you can use them for computer, HT, whatever you want!

With that budget, headphones will definitely give you the most accurate reproduction, but you may not like them for movie watching.

Even at $1k headphones will do the best job for accurate reproduction, issue is no one will be able to hear it 😉

Not sure if you can still get the Swans or not. They were supposed to be pretty good. You'd be able to get them and some nice headphones (like Seenheiser HD-595s) within that budget.

You could get the Klipsch 2.1 and higher end headphones.

What audio card do you have? You'll want a nice one (probably not Creative for music quality). Consider this as well. If you're using onboard sound, then you'll want to get a better audio chip to take advantage of the improved output.
