So, FedEx made me a job offer yesterday......

I live about a hour and a half away from Memphis in Tupelo, MS, and I've got some good friends who live in the Memphis/Southaven/Germantown areas.

The outer suburbs are growing at a huge rate. Hell, 10 or 15 years ago Southaven was nothing more than farm fields. If you move to Memphis, we'll have to get together and hit Beale Street. 😀

Wow, where did this thread come from? 😛

Well, I do have some updates for you guys. I turned the offer down for a few reasons, most notibily we could not agree on a salary. It would be a great place to work, but I just love california, its paradise to me. Kristin and I both have our family and friends here. We're just happy. Besides, my plan to get out of the IT sector is continual. But, if I can land a job that pays well, then I would probably take it and do that video/editing stuff on the weekends (which is what I'm doing now).

As far as the video editing question, I use to use Studio 8, but I've just recently moved on to Liquid Edition, which is a much more advanced tool.

I know I'll probably get some greif from you guys about my decision, but know that Kristin and I will be much happier where we are. I would hope you guys would support that.

Memphis is very humid. I had to do a job once there, and it was the stickiest week of my life. One the plus side, they had this really nice strip club. First time I seen a hot goth/industrial stripper. Anyways, aside from that, I see no need to want to live there.

Yea, I hear once you get out of the shower....unless you towel dry yourself off completely...you'll never dry off. heh

you should try columbia. it's a nice place to move to, if you're a single-income family living in a big city, lookin' for a nice place to raise those children (we came here from DC) but it takes like 4 hours for my hair to dry..

Memphis sucks.

Where in TN do you live? I wouldn't say Memphis sucks. There are better cities, but there are also many cities that are worse.

I think Memphis could adopt a new slogan for their city:

"Memphis ... putting the BBQ in OMGWTFBBQ"

Let me frank. Alot of people told you memphis is a nice place. Memphsi is a sh!thole. But the good part is you will not ever have to step foot in memphis. My uncle works at the noc.The Noc is near the airport and so is easily accesible (highways etc) the commute want be that bad. You then have your choice of place to live. A 20 minute commutes puts you in a rural area. North Mississippi. While 20 eat puts you in the swanky while flight suburbs. OR if you are young and Hip you will want to leave in MIDTOWN. Either way your kids will not go to public school. But there are lots of fun things to do .Outdoors, Beale streets,BBQ etc.

I would do it. I worked at fedex on the ramp for two years and found them to be a great employer

I wish I knew what it took and what you did to get a company to goto such great lengths to get you hired in that fashion... Fly you out and pay for a relocation??? Wow. I would of taken the job just because of that.

It's amazing how many people here are familiar with Platinum Plus.

While he's already stated that he turned down the job, he didn't state another good benefit: my sister works for FedEx, which apparently makes her technically an airline employee. So my parents get fantastic deals on vacations (like 7 day cruises for $200, airfare to Europe for dirt cheap, etc.). Sadly, siblings don't get the discount...
