so exactly how long should the federal government support out of work folks?

Huh? No - I just see an increasing avoidance of personal responsibility in our society. It's always someone/something else's fault/problem/responsibility

 to you for being responsible and hard working. It's a dying breed

Thanks! I thought you were being sarcastic, just wanted to be sure. :)

I could be off base, but I'm 40 years old, and the youngest of six children. I'm sure that was a big building block of my mentality and how I've come to live my life.

It makes me wonder about today's kids/young adults, and the reasons why some of them feel so entitled... Perhaps they were an only child that was spoiled, coddled, or the worse... Treated like some sort of "best friend" by their parents. ( I'm not on earth to be my child's best friend until they are responsible adults on near equal footing with me) They play sports where there are no losers, go to schools where there are multiple valedictorians ( true story) to be "fair" to everyone.

There are no kids these days coming to my door offering me to mow my lawn, rake leaves, etc.... They just get handed $$$ from mommy and daddy and sit in front of their xBoxes all day...That their parents bought them... Back in my day, I'd have to mow lawns, shovel snow, and pimp my ass out - cause I'd have to buy that expensive toy myself.

I read an interesting article a couple years back about how some college kids get their first job, and the first time they are called to the mat by their manager for not producing, or meeting some other expectations... They have major break downs...

Sad, just sad.

There are classes out there on how to manage the newer (sadly including mine) generations and their inability to handle criticism and constant need for affirming praise for doing work outlined in their job description. I think they also covered how to handle performance reviews when they expect a rating of 10 out of 10 even though they 'only' meet the job expectations which would warrant a 5 out of 10

Well, I gotta agree somewhat. I mean... I know there are not enough jobs to go around. But how old are you rude guy?

You do know employee's discriminate right? If you don't your blind or just not old enough. They discriminate against sex, age, fatness, healthness heck they even do credit checks on you now. It's not like a 50 year old is gonna take a mcD's job, Let's face it someone 50 years old is not gonna be as fast as someone 19-25 .... Maybe they could sweep up the joint and clean the tables but just how many part time jobs that offer mopping up floors and what not for 50 year olds? 50 year olds get sick more then a healthy person in their 20's. They want medical ... not some part time stupid minimum wage job.

I dunno... I think your a little clueless on how bad it really is unless your under 30 and can do something fast ... IE, everything still works good, your hearing, your eyesight, your brain, and you got all your fingers and reflexes to do a job well.

The pickings are slim and sorry to say if your not in perfect health or over the age of 40, or have some mental disability you are pretty much fucked.

Tho if your blessed with all those and can manage a part time job with no health benefits then ya! Your probably gonna get hired.

So...... Back to your question how long ... well, until jobs are plentiful that even a mentally ill person or 50 year old has a chance at getting job. That's how long.

I can't tell...are you asserting that most unemployed people are mentally ill and/or have been dismembered in some way? :p

That's because the Mexicans now do those jobs.

Or rather, the Mexicans now do those jobs because the kids think they're above them, and their parents are giving them spending money. Which is what you said. It is a bunch of crap, and I hate seeing it perpetuated in friends' children, friends that I grew up with and know they were raised "right", but are now turning into the kinds of parents that I hate. And the worst part is that the isolationist, sheltering style of parenting is infectious - parents who are logical and smart end up being scared not of what might happen to their children, but of what will happen to Them if they let their child, oh I don't know, walk home from school alone!

I get kids offering to mow my lawn, or shovel the walk.

They do exist.

You probably pay "professionals" and therefore feel bad.

Unemployment Insurance is another scam, run state wide, and nobody should qualify.

You lose your job, find another.

Don't live on the state tit.
