Hmm I wonder if that has anything to do with why the levels are reused so much. Perhaps they couldn't fit more on the DVD for the xbox so they had to limit it on the PC (and PS3 as well, the single Blu-Ray could hold many more levels).

na, geometry doesn't take up much space, even with some new textures it would be bad

From what it sounds like (haven't played it, had no desire too from when the first info of it came out) they simply got extremely lazy on this game.

Given that the first game was also released on the consoles, how much sense do you think that makes? Also bioware has shown with Mass Effect 2 that they'll put out a 2 DVD game for the 360 when they want to... they just apparently didn't care in this one.

Yet another case of blaming consoles when it's all the developer's fault.

Oh FFS, yes, wondering if there is a relation is exactly the same as blaming it...
I don't know wtf is going on at bioware and I'm not going to pretend I do. I'm not a game developer so I don't know any sort of details. For all I know when they were making DA2 they had so much more stuff going on (more voices, cgi, etc etc etc) with the game, and then some guy at EA said hey, make that shit fit on one DVD since having 2 cuts profits a little, so they dropped some stage designs.

Pretty good review.

Yup. I agreed with this line particularly:
Unfortunately, despite a refreshing move away from epic clichés the story lacks cohesion and a direction, feeling more like a chain of random events than a overarching narrative.

I think the gameplay is generally fun though, even though the lack of a tactical camera is fucking maddening. And hitboxes are fucked. And enemy waves are lazy and uninspired. And the difficulty scaling is terrible.

In regards to the Arishok:
Thirdly, why would you even want to avoid fighting him in a game where all you do is fight?

Exactly. In a game where all you do is smash people and animals (way too many spiders), and do it well, why are there so many situations that you can't solve with violence?
Why do you let the Qunari go on a rampage when you could apparently have singlehandedly carved a swath through their ranks and murdered their leader at any time?

Well this usually happens when a 1st release is a success one. They just want to sell products only based on their name.
That's why i like Blizzard so much. No matter the name they still release quality products

You guys might tear me a new one when I say this but.....

I played DA2 for 2 hours yesterday and I have to say I like it. Granted, it's not better than the original (so far in my opinion) and to me it doesn't feel like a sequel. The art style and combat plays so different to me that, they could have called this game "A Heroe's Tale" and no one would notice. I did like the combat of the first one more.To me, the combat feels / looks like I'm playing God of War or something similar. Not a fan of the companion armor limitations either. The story is good so far along with the voice acting. The graphics are phenomenal!

With respect, playing for 2hrs is not much of a way to judge a game.

Wait until you've put 40 hours in, and you see the same map for literally the 10th time (or more). Or until you've got all this cool armor and you can't use it. Or until you've been ambushed by the same spider for the 23rd time. Or attacked at night in The Docks for the 39th time. Aveline must be terrible because the crime in this city is so rampant the thugs outnumber the citizens by 20 to 1. :p

I agree, I would not make my final judgment on a game after 2 hours.I was only giving my opinion of the game so far. I can see why people didn't like the game and why they were disappointed.

Are there plans for DA3?

Almost certainly a DA3. DA2 is selling pretty well from all reports, and most AAA games these days are franchises.

I'm at what I assume is the final battle of Act II and they CANNOT be serious. This dude is impossible...

I will admit that I've almost completely ignored equipping runes, and this is no doubt to my detriment. I also am only wearing the basic robes I pick up off dead enemies, same goes for my staff and all my companions equipment. I guess my party is too weak...?

Only on "casual" do I think I'll even beat this final battle of Act II but even then I've tried three times so far and I still keep dying.

Ugh... the difficulty is so completely all over the place in this game... I cakewalked through DA:O on Nightmare almost half a dozen times, but DA2 is just wildly unpredictable.

Yeah, the difficulty is so out of whack. You'll be just cruising through the game using one set-up then all of a sudden they throw you against a brick wall that you have to completely alter your tactics and party composition and you might even have to respec for. I have no problem with having to alter your tactics on the fly, but being stuck because you specced your tank for maximum threat generation (because that was the main challenge up until that point) and now she doesn't have enough survivability when fighting a dragon is just bad design.

I assume you're talking about the Arishok fight. Once you nuke the adds down (make sure to kill the mages, "saarebas" or something, as soon as they get in LOS) then just AOE the rest down. Then once you get the Arishok alone, the easiest thing to do is kite him around as your ranged dudes hit him.

That guy was impossible for my mage. I just refused his offer of a duel and smoked the entire crew.

He was way too hard for a single mage as I found out,as I said the game does have some serious balancing issues with regards to difficulty, they are supposed to give you a fighting chance at the very least but he heals so damn quick etc and your offence only does very minor damage..I wonder if the developers actually ever bothered to play the game how it was supposed to be played.

Some news on next patch,

Hi Everyone

We know that people are waiting on more patching to fix issues they are having with Dragon Age II. We have said previously that we are working on patching for all 4 platforms (PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3), but we have not yet given any detail about what this patch will contain nor when it will be available. We greatly appreciate your patience as we work to fix issues with Dragon Age II and ensure that these fixes do not introduce new issues to the game. To help keep you updated on the status of the next patch (the first patch for PC and Mac Dragon Age II can be found HERE) we wanted to provide you with a more detailed message on the next Dragon Age II patch.

BioWare has prepared a patch for PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. We are currently testing the patch and are submitting it for certification with EA, Microsoft and Sony. Certification is where testing teams outside of BioWare confirm the fixes we make and ensure that no new issues are introduced. We continue to test the patch during the certification process to ensure quality. Once the patch has passed certification, it is then released to the public. We do not have a more exact ETA of when it will be available to you, but when we do know when it is available, we will let everyone know.

We cannot reveal to you the exact contents of the patch until it passes certification. We can say that there are more than 100 fixes including gameplay, quest and platform specific issues. We can also say that the implementation of auto-attack on both Xbox 360 and PS3 is included. When we can reveal the patch notes, we will let everyone know.

BioWare is dedicated to continuing to support Dragon Age II. We thank our community members who have helped our team fix issues by providing details and reports on the problems they are having. We appreciate your patience and your support.

Over 100 fixes, makes you think how much of the game was rushed.

Sounds like an MMO patch.....pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Had to be rushed....you never hear of anything like this from Bioware. I really hope they learned their lesson.

Even with my super twinked rogue that was a tough fight and I had to use a lifeward potion or whatever it's called that revives you when you die. I would recommend that to anyone having problems if you haven't already tried.

Trying that with a mage just seems sadistic, he hits way too hard and none of my mages can come close to the DPS my rogue dishes out regardless of spec.

I'm having real issues finding the motivation to finish this game, and I'm quickly running out of time (wife is delivering our 2nd on Friday, so bye bye sleep/video games for a while).

I have to be near the end
because Meredith and the First Enchanter are having some kind of lovers' quarrel
, but for all the time I've invested in this thing, I just don't care. If half my group just decided to die of the plague, I'd probably shrug my shoulders at this point. Must ... find ... motivation ... to ... finish.

lol jesus you guys cannot be pleased. They send out the fixes, and it just proves how much is 'bad'. They don't send out the fixes, and then everyone complains about what's wrong.

And for the record, DAO is still full of bugs to this day despite years of development and release.
