So that bullshitted about the tactical camera. They said consoles and PC's would have different combat.

I will get the game as I suspect I will still enjoy it, but EA is slowly but surely driving Bioware into the ground.

So far everything I've read in this thread makes me think I'll like DA2 more than DAO (which I haven't even finished yet)

I've never heard that phrase, I just spit water laughing

Hehehe, I think the phrase originated from the somethingawful forums :D

http://forums.somethingawful.com/dictionary.php?act=3&topicid=431

It came from a rather ... interesting story about some boyfriend, but it sorta morphed into a WoW thing:

During the World of Warcraft stress test where people were competing for the highest levels so that they could win a real beta account this became quite the catchphrase.

This phrase is most commonly used in the World of Warcraft forum in Games. It's now synonomous with anyone who participates in the end-game raid content, which usually requires several hours of play on a nightly basis.

GameInformer's summary of the PC version. They gave it 7.75

As much as it surprises me to say it, you should stick to the console versions.

On all platforms, Dragon Age II caters to an audience that didn’t connect with Origins, while alienating those who did. This may result in a better console experience, but considering that Dragon Age: Origins was a love letter to old-school PC RPGs, BioWare’s neglect of the sequel’s PC release is tragic. I appreciate the technical refinements, but improving the polish doesn’t do much good when the basics still need work.

I liked ME2 better than ME1; remove a lot of useless *fluff* to the game and made the combat ultimately better/faster while still keeping RPG elements.

I just read Gamespot UK review 8/10 rating, does not look good when you read this,

It's in the non-combat skills where Dragon Age II takes a step back. Herbalism, trap-making, poison-making, and other skills have been removed or restructured. There are still poisons and potions, for example, but to buy them, you must discover recipes for them and come across resource nodes as you explore.

Then, you can order them from a merchant or at your home. Stealing, survival, coercion--these aspects are gone, as are those introduced in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, though runecrafting was restructured in much the same way poisons and potions were.

Dumbed down now confirmed :( ,what happened to those great complex RPGs,do they think we get stupid with old age?

I'm with you Got Ham Hunter. I had a blast scanning planets for resources. I sat there and did it for hours!

Honestly, the poison/trap-making/coercion/stealing was all hackneyed anyways. What, I get to dump points into coercion so I can get the same info out of the guy, but said in a nicer way? Sweet. I came across 1 series of quests that actually even related to stealing, and even then I completed it all with just 1 point into it. Making poison/potion pots were cool, but all you did was need to put points into the skill and buy the recipe/farm the ingredients - still nothing that interesting. The same goes for trap-making.

The system was already dumbed down, and I don't think the new way of doing it makes it that much easier/dumber.

Granted, if the skill system (potions/poisons, etc...) was similar to Two Worlds 2 magic system and then became this, I would be upset.

Hey! I remember you! You're the jerk from the other thread who thinks I don't have a job and needs to swear to feel better because I had an opinion and was posting something helpful! That wasn't even your *burn* against me, give credit man!

Credit given to BrunoPuntzJones for the "Got Ham Hunter" post :)

It was better than running around a barren planet without direction in a vehicle for 3x-4x the amount of time to get the same thing (which had almost no use in the first game but to give you a boost in the second game). Admittingly, that part still sucked, and could have been left out. Maybe have nodes just be available as you're running around on planets doing stuff.

My point is they dumbed down virtually everything compared to Dragon Age,I can understand if you don't like the poison, potion making, but thats just one part, they have removed a lot more if you read the Gamespot review, God forbid what we'll see removed/dumbed down in DA3 ,what happened to those great complex RPGs is it a skill lost?

I hope "The Witcher 2" does not follow suit

Yes, it is too bad that games seem to be going in this route. I.E. BF -> COD, FFI-FFX -> FFXII/FFXIII, Baldurs Gate-> DA:O -> DA2, etc...

Granted, each new rendition brings more to the table in terms of innovation, but also tend to remove aspects of the previous to make the game more maintsream and appealing/available to a broader audience.

As you said, here's to hope on The Witcher 2.

As a general rule, you should assume that any game that is also available on consoles is probably consolized.

Hopefully without the clunky controls of the first.
I never had any issues with the controls, what was clunky about them for you?

Regardless, Witcher 2 is using an entirely different control system for it's new combat.

Haha, they aren't marketing to us old people. They are marketing to the younger crowd..and yes, they are stupider and have much less attention spans than us..now where'd I put my dentures... (Epic Generalization of course).

Damn. After the 150+ hours I poured into DAO, the negative press on DA2 has solidified a console purchase for me. I played the demo on PC and PS3 and the later felt much better. I was happy and sad at the same time because it felt that the "EA effect" has finally reached one of my favorite development studios.

Ok that sounds a little melodramatic. DAO was a great game even though it felt dumbed down from the legendary Baldur's Gate series. So what do they do next? They went and dumbed down the game even more. Nice.

I have been reading the feedback thread at their forums from those that have the game, anyway here are some of their remarks,

To put it simply, This games is an epic fail. Baldur's Gate I and II are to this day so far superior that it's not even funny. I couldn't care less about your useless grapchics/gimic animations lol. Your gameplay is dumbed down to the point of reading a newspaper and pressing a button at the sametime. No tactics whatsoever. EPIC FAIL.

Its simplified to the level of dumbing down. There are no longer skills, crafting (you have to go to vendors to craft stuff). The combat is repetitive and needs no tactical thinking whatsoever. All you need to do is spam attacks/spells. There is a clear copy pasting of maps. For a game with this large a budget you should expect cleat detailed maps. But NO.

I am heavily disappointed. What is the use of wasting so much money into a rushed game? i hope other games from Bioware do better.

Catering to the lowest common denominator

I have returned my pre-order in bitter dissapointment. I love decking out my party members in all the amazing armor I find and now that just like in mass effect has been taken away. This is a game with swords, armor and dragons how can you take such a integral part away from us and leave us with simple insulting upgrade options.

Mass Effect 2 was dumbed down and I hated that part of it and I refuse to support the games I love being stripped down to cater to Joe Public. I will not be purchasing this game!

Lol...I like that one above, there's positive feedback as well ,but to be honest its getting a very mixed feedback from the owners ,anyway you can read the rest here http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/6413491/1

I have pre-ordered DA2 ,but probably won't receive it until the weekend.

Was anyone able to download The Black Emporium? I'm getting 'download not found' errors... They need a simpler way of doing this than the crappy (and ugly) bioware social website.

I have faith, but man, I did NOT like the demo.

I didn't either until I played a Rogue. The Rogue class is fun as shit. But what's pissing me off right now is that I'm going on 2 hours to get all the DLC , high-res textures and DX 11 running, especially with the bioware website running like molasses right now.

Bioware had to fuck up sooner or later. They're my favorite developer so I hope they can learn from this and actually do Dragon Age 3 correctly.

Of course, the question is...will EA let them?
