What type of jewelry? Like silversmithing or goldcasting? Or beads on a hemp necklace or twisted wire stuff? I've looked into metalworking a bit. Never done it but I know where some resources are.

why wouldnt they? my dad makes jewelry, ive done lost wax as well as cast, and also some gem setting. ive also done a ton of leatherwork for both firearms (custom holsters) and motorcycles. i dont do public work to sell, and so far my dad seems happy to make stuff for friends and family as well. its a hobby like any other, and not an embarrassing one, like collecting plates of dead people or thimbles/ spoons.

I "designed" my wifes engagement ring, meaning I had a very strict set of specifications I wanted.

90% of jewelers can not go that custom though, theres only so many that have the skills to make custom stuff beyond just swapping out the stones and stamping letters into something.

I cut cabochons for use in jewelry. I have a friend who cuts cabs and his wife wire wraps them with silver or gold wire and make pendants and necklaces out of them.

I know a couple. One is really into beads and necklaces the other is really into metalwork. Also, my husband's Uncle designed and made our matching stainless steel wedding bands, if that is what you are looking for.

I had my engagement ring custom done. I told him what I liked and then he sketched out the combination of features. I keep reminding my wife how lucky she is to have someone like me and then she remind me how lucky I'll be if I had sex.

perhaps if you are resorting to malls and national chain jewelers.
