So this lady at work has been getting static on her phone recently so I got assigned to have it replaced. I went over to her desk and as I started disconnecting her phone I noticed around the handset was just caked with old makeup. I lifted it off the receiver and there was even more crusted makeup underneath. Fvcking disgusting.

my buddy works as an optician (AKA frame-bender). he says sometimes when he puts the little screwdrivers in the screws on the frames, some non-descript ***** gets displaced & smushed out. he calls it "face cheese". 😀

he's also seen some old people's glasses with so much face cheese on them that you can't tell what colour the frames are anymore.

Gross for sure, but just be glad they don't allow smoking in offices anymore. I worked in one old office where one small office had housed two serious chainsmokers for like 20 years. The walls were sticky and yellow. Nobody ever really noticed because the lights were intentionally dim (retouching studio) -but one day we had the lights on, moving equipment out and a framed photo that had been on the walls for eons was taken down, revealing a much-less-yellow square on the wall.

/puke.

Reminds me of when I inherited the cubicle of some fat pig who moved to a different one. The phone in the cubicle had coating of grease all over it, inclluding the buttons, the handset, even the earpieces. I almost puked just looking at it. I got a paper towel to pick it up with, threw it in the trash, and told them I needed a phone.

Nice. When I inherited this office the phoen and keyboard both came caked in cheetos powder... or at least that's what I thought it was.

So, as a maintenance person supporting company equipment, you made her aware that she destroyed the phone, right?

make up residue on the receiver and base causes static and/ or makes the phone stop working? wow, i didnt know this. i would have guessed wiring personally, but im glad you cleared that up for me so i know what to look for next time i get that call.

tell the lady to keep her phone clean, fix the static and move on with your day.
