So cold that I'm violently shaking

woke up in the middle of the night shivering. WTF? room temp = 68 as it is always.

went to get another blanket. a few sec out of my warm bed, i started shaking.
by the time i got the blanket and returned to bed, i was shaking violently like a bad hip hop dancer.

w/the 2nd blanket, i curled up in a ball shaking like i had an epileptic seizure. After a few min, it settled down back to shivering.

i'm in the middle of a mild cold.. stuffy nose, coughing but no fever.
i guess it's getting worse.
So this is the flu?!

i think the next time this happens i'll stick my hands under hot water, or heck take a hot shower.

and i was pissing like a racehorse thruout the nite.
a couple of hrs later, i woke up thirsty like hell. drank a cup of water.

when the alarm clock rang, i was still thirsty.

Sleep in the bathtub. When the water gets cold, drain some out, and add hot. Feels great, but getting out is always harsh. I just built a fire, and the cats are pleased. Maybe you can build a fire.

Yeah, that happens to me sometimes when I get a cold. If you run a fever, start vomitting, and cannot keep food down, that's the flu. Chills alone are not necessarily indicative of the flu.

The first time this happened to me it was a burst appendix and 4 hours later my stomach was splayed open on the table while they vacuumed my guts out. Lately, it happened to me again just a couple of days ago in the middle of a major flu type attack; so if you're still alive in 12 hours or so you'll know it wasn't the appendix.

FWIW, the last time I woke up violently shaking without a fever, turned out I was passing a kidney stone. Any flank pain or weird bladder discomfort? I'm guessing if you were passing a stone, you'd know by now. Worst pain of my life.

Probably just a nasty cold or stomach bug and temporary fever.

No, that's more likely gastroenteritis. If OP is hacking up a lung and is so weak he can barely stand, that's the flu. Incessant coughing/gagging could cause vomiting though.

OP, you are sick. I had the same symptoms back in April and it was hell for 12 hours. I don't know exactly what you have but I found that concoctions like Nyquil helped me ride it out.

If you are shivering to that extent ... take your temperature ... then report back.

I don't doubt that there can be bad consequences from vaccines but in general I take my chances and have them. They have been clinically evaluated, which takes much work and diligence, not to mention the process of inventing them and the actual production and distribution. I had my flu shot almost 2 months ago and am glad. It's said to work well against the current rather bad strain that's hitting the country and will soon hit here in CA. It takes about 2 weeks for the immunity to build up, so get the vaccine soon, is my advice if you haven't gotten it already.

Yes, my wife had cooked me some fish that night, and so for several hours I was swearing I had gas from bad fish I even told them that at the ER but luckily they saw right through me.
