Well, i picked up my copy at best buy on my way home and just got done playing some online MP action. I love it. Graphics are great, gameplay is very similar to COD2 but with a very fast pace, very frantic action.

New weapons and perks are awesome. I may play the SP someday, but i primarily bought it for some new MP. COD2 is getting a little stale.

Me too. Single player runs fine. If you figure out what the problem is, let us know.

Must be Vista because i just got done playing 3 rounds online on my system running XP.

I've never been big on the COD MP games, but I really liked the SP. All I hear is that the SP is "short," and I wonder how short is it? 😀

I hate to pay $50 for the game only to be utterly disappointed in the length, and crave more more more. 🙁

The reviews seem to indicate 5 hours.

Have you checked your firewall settings? I couldn't play the mp until then.

Single player is awesome, best I have ever played so far. I am having trouble connecting to MP games though so I cant comment on that. My friend keeps getting an error message when trying to change his resolution though. The game crashes to desktop and says there was a driectx failure of some sort.

i had to uninstall realtek HD audio drivers and let the microsoft ones kick in. pretty dumb huh. and it was working on single player

I suspected this after reading the following in the readme's Known Issues:

"CRASH WITH REALTEK ONBOARD SOUND CARDS
Users with Realtek(TM) onboard sound cards and Windows(R) Vista will need to use Microsoft Audio Drivers 6.0, which can be found at www.microsoft.com"

But I convinced myself that it couldn't be that because single player works fine. I guess I'll give it a try. Now that it's working for you, what does device manager say for sound device and what is the driver version? TIA

I've been playing the single player campaign for the last few hours. Very good game. The demo was the third mission in the first act (3 acts total).

Anyone else play the AC-130 gunship mission? Holy crap, that was so much fun.

Short = MOH Airborne. Although I haven't completed all the missions yet, I can say that COD4 is much longer.

Play in hardened or veteran mode right off the bat or you'll breeze through the game too quickly and suck in MP.

i hope you all are remembering that the reviewers are playing on default difficulty and the game makers suggest seasoned FPS players should play on the higher difficulties. doing that should make it last 8-10 hours according to some reviews.

Wow. I've been playing it for the last 2 hours or so and it's amazing. Lots of close-quarters hectic combat with intelligent enemies and nice cover (both penetratable and solid). I spent about 30-40 minutes just trying to get past this one level in a TV station. The game only saves at the beginning/end of each 5-minute section, so I had to do it quite a few times. Lots of terrorists, lots of cool things to spark and blow up, lots of cool weapons. It runs okay on my setup at medium settings, which is a good sign.

man, i hope there isn't something wrong with my system. hellgate took over an hour and 15 minutes to install and CoD4 is taking over 20 minutes.

That's kinda weird. Don't know about Hellgate, but CoD4 took 5 or so minutes to install. Maybe your disk is heavily fragmented. Or were you doing stuff while it installed? That'll slow it down.

i did nothing while it installed and i defragged recently.
i also can't join any games. times out all the time. its added to my firewall.
i'm in XP pro SP 2

i read another forum that said to do an ipconfig /renew so i did that and now I can play. no idea why it works...

anyway, holy crap....i played team DM and that goes by quick! so hard to see the enemies too.

this game is intense! defintiely gonna need some time to practice on this one. some of those guys are like unstoppable already. how do you get so good so fast?

i wish the idiots runnign the servers would lower the time between maps...15 to 30 seconds is too long to stare at a score board.

any atot servers going up?

mp is awesome. played the beta for 360 and the new levels are all pretty similar to the 3 in the beta, but all fast-paced and intense. i thought having more players per server in the pc version would be better, but some maps are way too small for 24-32 people.

I was having the same problem in Vista.

Uninstalled the Realtek drivers, ran Driver Sweeper, then let the default MS Audio driver install.

Same problem.

Read some more. Found an entry on a clan forum saying the latest Realtek drivers were ok and worked for a guy. Tried that.

Same problem.

To cure it I had to uninstall the device via Device Manager, reboot, go into the BIOS and disable the onboard sound, guy buy an Audigy and install it.

Problem solved.

On highest settings, does it look much better than the console versions?

I'm only interested in single player and since it's really short I'm thinking about just renting the PS3 version, however I'd like to know how much better the PC version can look other than higher resolution.

Got it today at Gamestop. They only had the limited collector edition, so for an extra $20 I got a little book 🙂. But at least I got the game.

Played for about two hours. Had to crank back some settings to get acceptable FPS in widescreen mode, but it's still gorgeous and quite taxing on the system. Running a 7600GT so I didn't expect the world.

Gameplay is awesome. All the mechanics are the same as the previous titles, but the enemies appear quite a bit smarter about ducking in and out of cover. The firefight through the town in the first U.S. mission and subsequent battle in the TV station are wild. I still haven't made it through the big video room in four or five tries.

My squad mates still run through my line of fire all the time, which was my biggest complaint with COD2 single player, but other than that it has just been a blast so far.

Oh, also the trailer and the way they handled the training and cinematic intro are really excellent. One of the best ever imho.

If you have Vista and onboard Realtek audio and can't run Multiplayer, try this:

Go to Device Manager>Sound, video and game controllers>Realtek High Defintion Audio Version 6.xxxx (or whatever Realtek device is shown)

Right mouse click

Go to Properties>Driver Tab>Update Driver>Browse my computer for driver software>Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer

Select "High Defintion Audio Device"

Let it install and reboot

This worked fine for me.
