So close to 1GHz on these PIIIs.

I got some 700E FC-PGAs retail cB0 today and they will post at 1008, but then return a mem error. Well, that tells me the problem is probably the ram. Tough break! I thought that Apacer Infineon would do it, but I guess I was mistaken. So far the best I can do stable is 7 x 140. Argh! 20 MHz is so close, but yet so far. :(

Hmm, my infineon was good for 150+ fsb when I had it... but Cas3.. the highest I could get it cas2 was 140.

Hey Mike, I have some PC133 infineon RAM and I still cant figure out what is stopping me from getting over 140 FSB without getting IE errors and having 3dmark crap out with a corrupt file error. Should I run my RAM at 3-3-3-6 and try it then? I can't seem to get this 650 stable over 900 MHz...only other thing really could be that I need more cooling than a Gorb like an alpha or something. Are there any other memory settings to try to increase stability? Thanks

Chris

Chris,

hmm.. you can't get over 140? I heard that the clockgen heatsink starts helping around 146(mine helped me from 144 to 150) and yours should be there soon.

Either way, have you tried your ram at 3-3-3-6 ram timings? That might help.

If not, nad you really want to see if its your ram or your cpu, drop your memory speed to "3/4" of system fsb.

I can run my machine at 148 FSB. My proccessor is a 700E Slot 1 cb0 stepping from www.pretestedcpus.com with his Peltier cooler. My ram is Micron from Crucial cas 2 7ns 133mhz (7E part) and runs fine cas 2 148 mhz it even works at 150 but the PC locks hard in 3D apps at anything over 148 FSB. I use a Asus P3V4X MB. My CPU temp is 44F as I type. I really think your problems stem from heat when you crank the P-3 up it really gets hot and I believe the L2 cache is what is giving you the memory errors.
