So Cat. just got stolen off my Highlander

I was actually learning about them last week, apparently they're coated with a wash that has precious metals, that's where most of their value comes from.

thieves stole them off of 4 beater trucks I use on the farm a couple years back. they have been stealing them out of local park and rides for a while now. sometimes people just really leaving me scratching my heads at how low they will go
 
why was your cat on your highlander in the first place? You should teach your cat where it is appropriate to go and where not.
 
you can't just replace a cat with an aftermarket, at least that's what I've been told, since the late 90's emissions requirements mandate an OEM CAT. If the Highlander exhaust is like other Toyotas I've seen it's a one piece assembly from headers to muffler, it'll be ~$2k to replace the CAT.

You can buy a CARB legal cat. When you have something like that you just give the tester a sheet with the CARB number of the part on it to show it is legal.

i believe the wording is that the warranty has to be void, and there is a need to replace the cat. so, within the warranty, it would require an OEM replacement. ouotside the warranty, youd have to be able to prove a bad cat to get a replacement, OEM or not. like the P0420 code my 01 dodge is throwing at me. its a bad cat, ill eventually replace it with a new aftermarket hi-flow thing. im hoping i can find a direct fit model for it, i dont feel like messing with my exhaust this year.
 
Happens alot around here. More so with European cats from BMW's and mercedes and Audi's though, you can get $100-200 Per cat for them at the recycler place down the street from the local scrap yard if you have the right cat.

I believe insurance companies are required to replace cats and ABS units with new, OEMs.

I can't believe it would be a 1 piece from headers to muffler, I can't see the advantage of that.
 
Wouldn't cutting it out make a good deal of rukus? Surprised it didn't wake anyone up. Hope they get the bastards doing that.

The newer metal matrix cats are actually worth less than the old ceramic monolith ones.
