I thought schools were liberal? Not. below we see conservatives smashing freedom of expression and speech. We are in very dangerous times in this country of losing all of our individual rights. Burning books next?

1st? gone see below
2nd? gone with bans nationwide and weapon discrimmination
3rd? Still good for now. Until martial law is declared and you have a marine taking your master bedroom.
4th? Gone with patriot acts, war on drugs and tax laws.
5th? Gone with torture and long term "detainments" and "questioning" which force self-incrimmination.
6th? Gone with patriot acts.
7th? Rights to sue have been systemactically stripped with the war on so-called "frivolus" law suits. Try and sue an HMO, you can't.
8th? Gone. I saw a sign last night going off trail in national forest lands was up to $100,000 fine.

Bush-As-Groucho Posters Spark Uproar

The Associated Press
Friday, May 27, 2005; 8:03 AM

LOS ANGELES -- Posters that depicted President Bush with a Groucho Marx-style mustache and cigar were ordered torn down at a high school after a student complained.

Theater students, who had created the posters to advertise a satirical play, countered with new posters with a First Amendment message.

Principal Kenny Lee ordered 100 posters removed from the campus of El Camino Real High School in the Woodland Hills area last week on grounds that they promoted smoking and "endorsing one ideology over another."

"That's our take on the student speech and conduct," Lee said.

The school-funded posters advertised the students' play, "The Complete History of America (Abridged)," which satirizes U.S. history.

A senior who supports the president wrote a complaint letter to the administration, teachers and students said.

"We had one student who was very upset," Lee said. "If something is bothering a student on campus, we're going to address it."

The poster ban infuriated some students.

"It taught us that the First Amendment certainly does not guarantee the right of free speech," said Jes Shah, 16, a junior in the school drama program.

The principal asked the drama students to come up with new posters. The new designs all feature a silhouette of Bush and a burning cigar, along with inscriptions such as "Free Expression for All (unless you are in high school)" and "What First Amendment?"

"They're good," Lee said. "I like the follow-ups."

No, even people who are not in High School are not permitted to exercise their right of free speech under the Bush regime. Some day (say, 2006 and then 2008), I truly hope I will be able to look back at this time as just a brief nightmare. *crosses fingers*

You don't need to look to far back into history to see who the real threats are to freedom and individual rights. (See signature).

Democratic President Harry S. Truman had it exactly right:

"The fundamental basis of this nation's laws was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings we get from Exodus and Saint Matthew, from Isaiah and Saint Paul. I don't think we emphasize that enough these days. If we don't have a proper fundamental moral background, we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the State!"

You are in school to learn, not make poltical statements.. What if the poster was an anti-abortion poster, or a any-gay marriage poster? Would you guys be upset about it not being allowed, no, you would be praising the action.

One student gets his knickers in a twist, and the administration has a fit? unbelievable. If it were about something serious - say, the student had been threatened, or hurt - then sure, take whatever action is necesary to find and punish the people that did it. But to start a fight because a simple play advertisement hurt your feelings? Gimme a freakin' break.:disgust:

Public schools suck

Here are a few of my experiences here in Washington.

MY daughter horribly upset over what Americans did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The class never discussed Pearl harbor.

An assembly where an openly homosexual teacher took the stage to explain homosexuality to the kids in my sons elementary school. The subject was tolerance and alternative lifestyle families.

A middle school assembly with a local rap artist. They handed out posters afterwards. My son brought one home that said something to the effect of "You my bitch" on it. Somehow I think it may have been less than appropriate.

A middle school graduation ceremony. The principal takes the stage and as shes speaking we hear " As you move to high school you must aks youself yadda yadda. ( she actualy said aks) We were seated with the teachers, they were horrified.

The list goes on and on. How can we expect rational decisions from people like this?

Ok, time for me to leave the board for a while before I go on a country wide stupid person killing spree.

Well, making Bush look like Groucho was not a method of praising him I am sure. Even if it was Clinton, or Gore, or Kerry, I wouldn't support it.

So we must only praise? It was neither praise nor degradation. It was light hearted satire.

Anyone who needs someone to die on an internet message board before they can have a peaceful life has some big problems. Of course anyone who remembers your posting history about your divorce, your kid, the way you live your life, etc understands you're one of lifes big losers with court certified mental problems. Go get some help, what Rip posts on this message board is the very least of your problems.

More and more your posts are strikingly similar to a Muslim screaming "Allah Akbar!" (God is Great!) while pumping his fist in the air and looking around for infidels to smote.

such as? (Not being ignorant - I'd like to see some specific examples). I think Hecubus above is right though; you can blame libs for that one. After all, the NRA is largely a conservative organization. Personally, I'm all for people's right to own guns (heck, I have relatives working in the firearms industry), though I question why people think they should be able to own some of them. For instance: why on god's green earth would any normal, law-abiding civilian need to own a fully automatic weapon*?

*And yes, unlike some (possibly a lot) of the media, I do know the difference between full auto and semi-auto.
