Monterey Park-I've seen quite a bit of ash on my car. And the air outside has a smoky smell.

quite a bit away from me as of right now. All but 2 of those pics are the direction of the Rancho Bernardo/Poway area for those familiar with SD county. One of them is of the smoke from the Ramona/Valley Center fire, another is just of the sun.

Both mine & walleye's are of the Cedar Fire. I don't know where walleye is exactly, but my pics are of the northing side of the fire, were as Alpine is south of the fire...but I imagine they are seeing the same thing. Im about to go out again to get some night shots.

I feel bad for the people whose homes burned but there's an upside. I just found out that my school (Moorpark College) is closed tomorrow because of the fire up here in Ventura County. Yay!

Bellflower, near the 91/605 here. You tell me if you see ashes.

Here's the sun in a series of four shots as it becomes obscured behind a particularly thick layer of smoke & ash right before sunset:

Shot 1
Shot 2
Shot 3
Shot 4 (the above, zoomed)

The others described it perfectly---you can see it all around, smell it and taste it... and no part of it is anything pleasant. :disgust:

(WTF, I'm reposting this as my post(s) and that of another member seems to have disappeared?!?! )

EDIT: LOL, n/m, we just have two VERY similar long-ish threads w/VERY similar titles here on ATOT. :p

I could see flames last night and most of today but not so much tonight. I live about 3 miles from the flames and got lucky... the winds blew everything away from our house. The air looks worse in LA/OC than it does in Highland (at the base of the mountains being burned).

That might change once the trees farther up the mountain really start burning. It's absolutely nuts.

Hollywood... all cars in driveway are covered in soot and ashes. That means I'm actually breathing it.

Holla! I'm from Escondido and my car was covered with a thin layer of ash. And there's smoke all around the city, to the north, to the east, to the south, the west....

3 hours after my post the fire was about 1/4 of a mile away and I was packing up my computer and other small things to get out of here if needed. I live by Dixon Lake and the fire was about to come over the mountain numerous times over the last couple of days. The firemen have done an amazing job with their limited resources and I feel very lucky to still have a home.

I know someone who lost a relative and people who lost their home this weekend. :(

My heart goes out to anyone that has been affected by these fires.

I've been getting it from both ends. I live in Stevenson Ranch and Big Bear (sigh!). We left BBL on Sunday to come back down here to meet my sister in law (she was evacuated from the San Diego fires). We got home and got evacuated yesterday (I sent the wife/kids/pets to the mother-in-law in Santa Barbara). I'm staying until the fire fighters get scared. Things have been touch and go (looks like another flare up right now), LOTS of ash and stuff.

Some photos from the 'fun' yesterday are here (there where all taken from my front yard, back yard, or the houses 6 down).

Good luck to everyone else involved.

Thanks CB. Been an intersting week, but things are looking much better. The fire here is contained (Simi fire), and the evacution for Big Bear Lake has been lifted (now voluntary), so we can go back up the hill again. I hope everyone else got off as lucky as we did.

Best,
Bill
