It's probably a little bit more than a chick flick, in that it does bring up controversial issues. It also has beautiful scenery in it as well. However it is merely the story of two people who fall in love. They just happen to be male cowboys.

any explosions? what is the body count? are these cowboys packing automatic weapons? WMD's?

I'd like to see Phoenix win it myself. He did a good job, he deserves it more than Ledger.

Well, there is ALMOST a bear attack, and a few sheep die. Oh, and there are a couple of gruesome scenes, but describing them would give away part of the story

same here, i thought he did a great job. but the reason why i dont have him as a lock is because of foxx getting it for 'ray' last year. gets kind of repetitive. it should have no aberrance on him winning it, but something tells me it just isnt a sure thing.

Some people do like movies that aren't mindless action hack fests. Basically, I'm saying you have awful taste in movies, and only like garbage, but not everybody does.

Also, it's all relative to the other movies that came out. If only bad movies come out in any given year only a bad movie can win best picture.

There's the excuse that I am the father of a 3.5 year old and on the off chance that I actually get to go see a movie with my wife it probably won't be that one.

I'll wait until it's out on video or pay per view if I see it at all.

My wife dragged me to see it. I'm not into mushy love stories, not into cowboys, and not into guy on guy action. But, it is a very good story that the producers and actors filmed extremely well.

I do recommend that you go and see it.

Although I wasn't quite prepared for the one of the earlier scenes... 😱 Made some of the teenage girls in the theatre giggle.
