So Blu-Ray won?

I have not been following the format war at all.

But with Blockbuster's announcement today, does that signify Blu-Ray the winner for sure?

Blockbuster alone will not decide it, but it's the catalyst. Expect another major blow in the following weeks with Universal ultimately jumping ship (by year's end) at which point we can declare the war being officially over.

the most recent thing I heard is that HD-DVD has about 61% of the market share right now.
Oh and that Walmart will be selling HD-DVD players for about $250 soon.

HD-DVD has 60% of the standalone player market. This excludes the PS3, which is kind of silly being it has sold over 2x that of all standalone players combined. Software sales for are much higher for Blu-Ray which reflects the higher install base. Wal-Mart has emphatically denied that they will be producing HD-DVD players.

What announcement are you talking about? 😕

EDIT: nevermind, saw the either topic. If Blockbuster is really stocking only Blu-Ray, it definately gives BR another advantage over HD-DVD. In itself it doesn't mean that Blu-Ray will win, but when combined with many of the other advantages Blu-Ray has (such as a much bigger instal base), this could really mean the end for HD-DVD.

If Sony wins, no high def pron 🙁

I think they're already release some.

I've heard HD pron isn't that good. Because in SD, you can't see all the imperfections in the body, but it HD all of them become glaringly visible. pronstars aren't that pretty without all that makeup and the right camera angles. not that I know anything 😉

blue ray may be the better format...

but like all things sony, there are cheaper *almost just as good* alternatives...

as long as 75% of america is the struggling middle class... high end DVD isnt exactly on the priority list.

seconded. In mayb 2-3 or 5 years time when plasmas and lcds become cheap, THEN only will HD take off. And who knows, with internet speeds increasing so fast, downloading may become a viable option (though physical media should still be dominant)

No, by itself that DOES mean Blu-Ray is going to win, unless everyone decides to spend 4x the money to buy movies, or subscribes to Netflix.
