Satan is the father of lies. Don't believe everything you read and hear. You should only place your trust in Jesus Christ, his Father, and the Holy Spirit.

Otherwise you are easily mislead.
Says those that can not think for themselves.

Especially when the religious leaders place themselves on a pedestal and expect to be treated special. They are human, no different than any other
person, although they seem to imagine themselves to be.

Historical fiction is great; to bet ones life on it not so great.

There have been mentions in the Bible of asherah, there is absolutely nothing new about this. What is "new" is some nutcase twisting it to be totally different. Asherah was a false god, and the asherah poles that got set up Israel when they rebelled against the true God were condemned by God, and when the people turned from their rebellious ways they'd chop down/burn the asherah poles.

People come up with all sorts of crazy stuff. The amount of crazy is proportional to how much the person hates the thing he is bashing.

Nothing new here. Move along.

Kind of like how early christians made up crazy shit like easter, all saints day, and christmas to cover up other religions important holidays. Man, they must have really hated those mofos.

/facepalm

The Israelites did turn to idolatry on more than one occasion, especially during the time of the kings.

This isn't an unknown deity or a hidden fact. The Israelites turned to other deities like Baal (really a host of deities) and Molech.

Some people believe the worship of Mary in Catholicism is just a more modern take on the worship of Asherah.

Your complete and utter lack of self-awareness is astonishing.

LOL.

I mean seriously, LOL. Early versions of the bible? What? How can this be? You mean, there are different versions of the bible? You don't say...

Which version do we use? Is it like a text book, we should always use the latest version? What is the latest version?

😛

If it were like a textbook, they'd come out with a new version every year with very minor revisions, obsolete the old one, and require you to purchase the new one.

Shhhhh!!!! The Catholic Church might hear you!!! 😱

My point was the fact that there are different versions of the Bible invalidates the whole idea. Just like the fact that there are more than one religion invalidates the whole idea.

Using textbooks was actually a bad analogy, but yeah. 😛

I think, therefore I am 😛

By the way, your ad hominem attack is pretty lame.

Using that kind of logic, the fact that there are science books that have different takes on certain areas, or scientists that disagree on things, or heck even different takes on current events in the news invalidates the whole idea of all those.

Um no, not true, we know that. Please, try again.

The different 'versions' of the Bible are more because of various ways of translating from Greek or Hebrew to English (just like with translating from any language to another). Some are more literal, some are more grammatically correct, but none are in conflict with each other.

Your point is logically false. Just because there are different texts stating the same idea doesn't make it untrue.

For example, there are many different Biology textbooks stating the same concepts. Does that mean that the concepts those biology textbooks expounds not true?

Research by Francesca Stavrakopoulou, a senior lecturer in the department of Theology and Religion at the University of Exeter, unearthed clues to her identity, but good luck finding mention of her in the Bible. If Stavrakopoulou is right, heavy-handed male editors of the text all but removed her from the sacred book.

I immediately saw that name, and thought it must be this guy

(though that is almost certainly a woman's name, yes?)

Oh, this is exciting! They are adding a new character to the Christian story?! I wonder what new adventures are in store for her.

so, what do you actually know about Asherah, other than the one version of the Bible you know telling you nothing more than it being "a false god."

You really don't know dick beyond that, do you?

In the OT, God frequently came down and distributed justice amongst his supposedly hated followers (I mean, he gave them box and murdered them all the time), so...is it not possible, that God had a falling out with Ms. God, AKA Asherah, and to punish the cult of Asherah worshipers that clearly existed amongst his followers, he had their poles snipped?

:hmm:

hmmm, God punishing those who worshiped his estranged wife...snipping their poles...these become Hebrews....

...snipping the Asherah poles...

...snipping poles...

:hmm:

😱

fellas, I think I have just proven the Asherah theory, and the origins of certain Hebrew tradition. I mean think about--it almost sounds perfect, no?

Ahh, so that's why they can't eat shellfish.

No, it isn't possible. God, by definition, is perfect, so no, that couldn't happen.

Not really.

I knew that's where this was going to go, and that's what I meant by my comment - text books were a bad analogy. How about we compare it to Harry Potter?

The difference between different revisions of a text book and the different versions of the Bible is that a text book is a book of facts as we understand them today. Sure, they change. That's why the text books change. They're ever evolving, just like life. Sure, there is debate. There are different ways to interpret any given fact, but it's still a fact because it is observable and repeatable.

The Bible is a story book. Sorry if that offends you, but it is a work of fiction. It's a book of anecdotes. Now, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this - there are many good lessons in the Bible. I just cannot see how it is fundamentally any different than a group proclaiming that Harry Potter is the son of God and creating a religion around it. 😛

Bleh, I hate religious discussions. It's not like I'm actually going to change your mind, and that's fine. Just realize that there's a whole world out there, and quite frankly if you think religion has anything to do with anything, you're insane. Just be a happy, good person, and you'll do just fine in life. There are plenty of Christians, Muslims, Atheists, Bhuddists, Hindi, Agnostics, Wiccans and Pastafarians doing just that right now, as we speak, all over the world. It really doesn't matter.

Impossible. God would never make such a monumental mistake as to get married.

HALF! She'll take half his shit...

That's what god gets for marrying a bush bitch w/o a prenup.

"Jehovah, what have you done for me lately?!?"

If god did have a wife, who married them? What were the prenuptial agreements in the event of a divorce? And when the divorce happened what did the wife get? :\
