Heard launch price was being lowered from $449 to $399 but that's it. I don't think Nvidia can really afford to lower it even more. And 4870/4850 will probably be like hotcakes (sorta like the 8800gt) so 4870 will probably go for closer to $350, in which case some people might go for a gtx260 at $399. But yea... Nvidia's not winning this round so it seems, especially when RV770 comes out in August.

I'd be very surprised to see a price cut that significant. The massive monolithic GPU and the expensive memory architecture don't bode well for brash price cuts. Although nVidia may simply have to bend over and take losses as either they'll sell them for less (or even a loss?) or they simply won't sell...although I guess there's always the possibility that ATI won't be able to meet demand and thus we'd see people giving in and buying GTX 260s if only because the 4870 shoots up in price or is sold out and simply can't be acquired for anything let alone $300...

Yeah I have a feeling that the 4870 is going to be very hard to get a hold of. I'm pretty sure that Ati have a very limited supply of 4870's and that will drive the cost up closer to the GTX260 level which would make Nvidia very happy.
