I guess when one is extremely fat one must take to exreme measures to slim down. I can't imagine a healthy person in shape doing this to their body. I bet 20 years from now many of those who are using the Atkins diet will be keeling over dead from clogged arteries.

atkins diet is terrible.... ask any nutritionist... my buddy just had a class in nutrition and all the sugar gets stored in your liver. The weight you lose is water weight, and when you start eating normally again, youll balloon back up

What sugar? The Atkins diet restricts sugar and other carbohydrate intake.

But that takes will power and dedication plus it takes patience because often the weight just doesn't fall off.

I just wish people would stop equating weight loss with a healthy diet. Just because one is losing weight doesn't mean it's of benefit to your body...

If you are obese it does. The thread title must be misleading because I seriously doubt that any weight loss specialist would advocate drinking bacon grease over eating carrots, that would be insane.

That's simply not true.

Many vegetables and nuts are low carb. Most nuts are excellent sources of protein.

You are quite correct. The Atkins diet pushes lots of high protein foods like meat and eggs simply because you are getting at least some nutrition out of the food. Bacon grease has neither protein or carbohydrates, just empty fat calories. Not to mention it's really gross.

But if you're severely limiting your carbohydrate intake, there may be no other way to get your minimum calorie requirements for the day. Fat, carbohydrates, and protein. If you are cutting out the carbs, that pretty much leaves fat and protein.

Yeah...sure..

Morons being the ones who post in Atkins threads claiming that its terrible, does not work, or is bad for you, and make statements that are simply not true. I am tired of letting people know they are wrong, so I just tell them what they sound like..morons. Thanks.

Well of course the diet doesn't recommend you eat a pound of bacon, silly.

Carrots and other veggies have natural starches. Starches and carbs are what you are trying to avoid on Atkins.

When you are past the first phase of atkin you can start to reintroduce starches like carrots, and melons, even potatoes to an extent.

Atkins sounds a lot like a diet, and it is used as one most often. Really though it wasn't meant to be a "diet" it was meant to be a new way of eating. A better, healthier way. It's hard to understand if you aren't actively involved or researched it, I guess.

Sugar turns into carbs so do starches. Carbs are brain food.

You aren't stripping yourself of carbs you are limiting them and gradually working you way back up to a healthy carb level.

I am sorry but I will stick to my regular diet, I need the carbs granted I could lose 30 more pounds currently at 220 but down from 290 from a year ago, but all I did was change my eating habits and the amount
of junk food I ate and did more exercise, carbs are fuel for the body.

Sugars are carbs. Carbs are not necessarily sugars.
