so about this AEG thing

this forum is in pretty bad shape, it was a great place when i joined in 03, but its slowly slid down hill.

theres too much FUD, too many fanboys and just too many threads asking the same thing over n over.

and now with this AEG thing i fear this place may just become worthless. i sincerely hope that this place doesnt turn in to a 24/7 witch hunt for AEG or similar shills.

with ATI currently not linked to anything of the sort, i hope the Ati fans among us dont start pointing the finger everytime some one puts in a good word for nvidia.

there are some very very knowledgeable people here, (pete, matthias sp? and apoppin, ackmed, 5150, ronin, rollo, and others also know their ****** whilst being slightly less nuetral...buts that fine) would be a shame to drive the knowledge away from this place because its become an unattractive place to be.

It's all a bit sad really but with the american way and all you can't stop it happening. Round here in the UK online has been the only refuge for sensible advice (PC World etc always stick the customer for all they got) but even online is becoming unsafe for sound advice.

At least I know i'll always recommend the best in the price range, not siding with anyone here. No matter what i'm offered I have my own principles and standards and won't sell my opinion to the Leprechaun (nVidia) or the Devil (ATI).

I don't see what's the difference between a fanboy and someone paid or bribed to recommend a certain product. You can't really trust either for unbiased advice so how is one worse than the other? And yet fanboys are just ignored while bribed bring on some sort of anger.

I agree. To anyone starting AEG threads which turn into "witch hunts": just ignore whomever you deem AEG people and stop making threads about it. We are all sick of hearing about that stupid crap every damn day. :|

People heavily biased on either side way outnumber the people that are mostly neutral, and they are way more inclined to spend hours and numerous posts on any little thing. I'm slightly biased toward Nvidia myself, tho. my 3 current computers house ati cards.

I swear... hearing all these parrots say "witch hunt" over and over is truly a testament to the power of AEG's marketing.

The other funny thing is how AEG overnight went from being a marketing organization into a beta hardware distributor.

I'm not falling for it.

well thats what it is, that other thread in here is pretty much intent on finding out who is an AEG man. and in FI i believe one member PM'd a mod with a list of people who he thought could be AEG men, i cant confirm or deny this though so dont hold me to it. i deem that a hunt.

i think im gonna hang round bit-tech more often now.

i hope you werent flaming/attacking me in that post...thats not what i set out to achieve. i just want to make sure this forum doesnt get completely worthless.

Wasn't flaming or attacking you... just pointing out how this thing is being spun by the AEG agents. Heck, Rollo's coming out post link includes this witch hunt catchphrase.

I hope the discussions improve in this forum too. I don't think buying into the spin is going to acheive this improvement though.

I think people are being a little over zealous with this whole AEG purge, we have one admitted AEG member here and they should be banned or at the very least have some conditions applied to them. The problem is that people on both sides are trying to use this to get anyone they don't like banned, until there is conclusive evidence that someone is an AEG member (or equivalent) they should be able to do as they please within the forum rules.

rollo shouldn't be banned, he's a valuable member to this community weither we like or not, and has passed useful information to others members regardless of his affiliation to AEG. like he has said many times before "his opinions are his own." sadly people have been after him for a long time, and now this whole AEG thing just adds more fuel to their fire. let him be...

Men in Black, X-Files, KGB and now AEG Agents :p (I need to update my sig)

I don't understand the paranoia about this. Are they implanting subliminal messages into the forum? Are AEG biased views any more detrimental than fan boy biased views? Only in the AT video forum I guess.

Yep. I think the mods should ban Rollo, and also ban any other known users working for AEG (it there are any I don't know). If in the future more users will be found working for either ATi's or nVidia's marketing groups they should get insta-banned. After they ban Rollo I think the mods should just lock all AEG threads. This AEG story makes it harder for me to believe online advice, and maybe they should add a sticky at the top of the video forum or something.

Well, to be fair, he's right. It just turns into a quest of false accusations (even if that wasn't the original intent) and overall degrades user relations here. (Well looks like Rollo confessed but as for the rest they are being falsely accused on little basis.) It doesn't help anything being hostile and belligerent toward anyone here, even AEG members. I'd say the people who flame the AEG members have as much if not more reason to get banned. People can just ignore those they deem biased AEG people. But the flames and personal insults will never stop.

Valuable to this community?

His attacks on anyone who dared to discuss any brand besides Nvidia is a serious negative. He derailed many fine threads with his marketing agenda. Many people have been intimidated by him. And last, but not least, he is a proven liar.

Valuable? Yeah, right.

The only people who care about this are ATI fanchimps who can now blow off valid criticisms of their chosen cards as being "AEG-paid trolling". Except for the 9800 vs. 5900 cycle, ATI has been beaten like a red-headed stepchild's rented mule by Nvidia for the past 7 years and that has made the fanchimps all sad in their pants. They've been keepers of the self-delusional flame that 3dfx's zombies had back in the day - "OK, so Nvidia wins this round, but NEXT TIME...." - and they aren't going to suddenly get sane because Nvidia promoted themselves in a iffy manner.

I've gone from TNT->TNT2U->GeForce DDR->GeForce 2 GTS->GeForce 3 Ti200->GeForce 4400(?)->5900->6800GT->7800GT - easily a couple thousand dollars worth of cards that I've BOUGHT and PAID RETAIL for and the hell is a clutching fanchimp going to try to stand in this kerfuffle as a substitute for a good product with drivers that can actually render properly.

The paranoia is about this forum degenerating into a cesspool of spammy for-hire 'enthusiasts.'

Look at it this way. If we let the AEG 'manage' this online community, how long until we have ATI responding in kind?

And don't go waving red herrings like 'ATI probably does this' around. The ATI fans for the most part have ancient museum-quality hardware ATM. They're not waving their 5 year olds dual 7800GT rigs in anyone's face, so are most likely not on the ATI paytroll.

Rollo has already threatened to sic the lawyers on AT if he were to be banned.

Long live the paid zealots.

Edit:
This is hard to believe and I don't think even Rollo would sink this low.

Oooh details? Is he seeking damages because not being able to post in AT will impact him materially? It's gotta be a pretty big dollar amount for a lawyer to get involved on a contingency. I'm guessing Rollo won't bankroll the suit himself.

This would be GREAT to see, it'd be proof that the shills are indeed paid.

OTOH, it's also ammunition for AT to seek compensation from the shills for all the advertising they've done for free against the forums' terms of service.

okay, i have seen other members do the same, regardless if their praising one brand or the other. bashing one's thread or flaming another member for their opinions and suggestions. this a open forum where ideas, advice, support are commonly discussed. yes rollo has posted some BS in the interesest of starting a flame war, but other members have done the same. he's not the only guilty one in here of doing that.
