So... about the 700w from Verizon

fs5

Lifer
A data plan is mandatory. $25 for 10 megs or $45 for unlimited PLUS a voice plan starting at $35.

$35 + $25 = $60 plus tax ~= $70 a month lowest or ~$90 with unlimited data.
$499 for the phone after 2 year.

There goes my 700w dreams. :frown:

After you get the phone, just call VZW and have them take the data plan off.

You can buy the 700w from Palm directly without a data plan too...full price however.

If Bill Gates uses it, it has to be good😛

The reviews are bipolar for some reason... not very trustworthy.

I'm looking at the 650 as well because the benefits aren't that great (processor/memory/resolution... )

About the data plan.. how fast does 10MB go ? Just checking email and a couple sites (ie. sports scores) a handful of times a week...

Come to think of it ... even $25 for that is a bit much... that's how much I pay for my monthly voice plan right now.

Depends on your provider and if you are willing to change. Cingular is $20 a month for unlimited data.

tmo is like $25 for unlim data

but I wouldn't know, because I use corporate pooled minutes and data plan 😉

Well there you go. I think T-Mobile has the 650 too.

one of the reasons why I like the 700w is the 1.3 mp camera. (and faster cpu).
But the 44% less screen does outweight those 🙁

This day and age and people are still trying to use their cell phones as camera replacements? I agree, 0.3 MP on the 650 pales in comparison to the 1.3MP on the 700w. Wait, did you just read what I wrote? 1.3 MP. HAHAH, from a CELL PHONE lens, with no flash. That's hot!

I would love it if all cell manufacturers took away the cameras in cell phones and cut the price. I don't use it on my V200 and I don't use it on my Treo. In case you want to see what it looks like:

Cllick here

Now imagine it in 1.3 MP. Whoppee!

Faster CPU might not matter because you cannot compare Palm OS and Windows Mobile. I mean that's lilke saying G5's have slower CPU's than a Windows Athlon/P4 so it runs slower. Different applications and OS's.

The Palm OS is far from perfect, but I am saying the 650 seems like the better complete package when compared to the 700w.

explain? You mean to make out of country phone calls?

It's Goosemaster. What did you expect? And no, he is talking about using a laptop with wireless broadband and using Vonnage or Skype to make phone calls. So instead of a portable PDA cell phone that fits in your pocket, you have a laptop and you probably pay more for the bandwidth than you do with a cell phone voice and unlimited data plan..

For The Win, indeed.

No, however going from 0.3 MP to 1.3 MP I would actually start USING the camera. I can't count number of times I wanted to take a picture with my cell phone but didn't because of the crappy resolution.

for Windows Mobile, no device on the market right now is better than the Audiovox PPC6600, in my opinion anyway. it has a very nice screen, decent camera, great PDA, decent phone in a decent size package (bigger than most phones).

i use it every day as my primary PDA, Scheduler and Email reader. it's great, plus with Verizon Broadband available to me almost anywhere i go in the TriState area, it really is a decent browser as well.

Ummm.... how does Sprint not get mentioned here? $10 for unlimited data. They have the 650, but with the reviews of the 700w, I agree that there's no good reason to buy it.

PPC 6700 is available at Sprint w/ unlimited EV-DO for $15. 1.3MP camera and that huge screen.

You are looking at it the wrong way. When I want to take a picture and I only have my cel phone, I think "man, I should have brought my digital camera"

I don't think "boy, I wish I had a better digital camera inside this PHONE"

Nobody is trying to use them as a camera replacement, but having a 1.3mp camera that does OK in daylight is far better than having nothing.

I find myself using my camera phone all the time, where I certainly am not going to carry my S414 around with me everywhere.

who are you to tell him his POV is wrong? it's his POV and therefore is correct, it just happens to be different from YOUR POV.

Kudos to you. Enjoy paying more for your service. I have zero problems with my service and I was on a college debate team for years that travelled all over the country.

Regardless, I'm still surprised that they weren't even mentioned given that data is their niche.

Oh god, this just turned ugly. I said that in jest, as was the general theme of this entire thread. Who am I? Who ARE YOU to explain to me the definiition of opinion. Why don't we make it a sticky and oh, I don't know, SHUT DOWN ATOT and all internet discussions that include opposing viewpoints.

What exactly is your point?

Ilmater, this thread is not an end all detailed description of smartphones and all voice and ata plans available worldwide. Don't be offended that they are not mentioned. And lookee, you just mentioned it yourself.
