Snowing in Seattle

Seattle drivers can't drive.

Add rain, it gets worse. (I'm from NorCal - we drive better than the Seattle-ites in the rain.)

Add snow, STAY HOME!!!!

The snow here isn't bad but (1) the government isn't equipped to deal with it and (2) the drivers slip and slide everywhere.

Phoenix drivers are the absolute worst. Not blaming AZ. But when you have different driving styles from all over in once place, it makes a mess. That doesn't explain their red light running.
Back to the weather. It's going to be 31-32 degrees with a chance of rain in the next few days at night. Maybe I will see some flakes.
(Orange County, CA)

Earthling drivers are the worst drivers I've ever seen. We Martians... we know how to handle adverse driving conditions. I don't know what is wrong with everyone else.

Until you get assimilated by the Mercurians.

Wow... this snow day rocks!!!
NSCC is closed for morning/afternoon classes.
Seattle SD is closed.
Shoreline SD is closed...
Everywhere is closed.
UW is open 😉...

WOO!
But this means Fedex won't deliver my package today 🙁

Having lived in Chicago most of my life, just moving to the Seattle area 2 1/2 years ago; it's true. Seattleites don't have much sense when it snows. That being said, the topography of the region does make a minor snowfallsomewhat challenging, but there's not a whole lot of common sense out there on the roads.

I live in Puyallup; got about 3 inches of snow. The roads were pretty icy. So, instead of gambling on the abilities of the other drivers on the road, I walked to the train station to get to my office in downtown Seattle. Sounder FTW! Anyone around here who votes down mass transit initiatives is an idiot.

Technically, it rains more here than in California, so theoretically, we SHOULD be able to drive better in the rain, and we probably do...
No, you don't. Seattle drivers SUCK at driving in the rain. It never even really rains up here. I've been here almost three years and there has only been ONE time where it rained harder than a drizzle. What you people call "rain" up here is pretty pathetic. It's absolutely hilarious how people here get so excited over the one or two thunderclaps that happen each year, "OMG!!!! LIGHTNING AND THUNDER!!!! WHATEVER SHALL WE DO??"

As for snow, Seattle drivers are even worse. The freeways are 100% clear this morning and morons are still only going 35 in the fvcking passing lane.

Why should I vote to give more money to a system that has repetedly broken its promises of service and has been mis-managed pretty badly? Seems to me that rewarding such things with increased funding would only encourage them to continue the poor level of service rather than to shape up. Also, why should I have to pay for something I don't use?

Just because you don't use it doesn't mean you won't derive benefits from it if it takes more drivers off the road.

That still doesn't address why I would pour money into a broken system.

While I agree about them shaping up and planning better, the last sentence of what you said is just retarded.

Based on that logic, people with no kids shouldn't pay taxes that go to schools, or pay taxes for roads/freeways they don't drive on, etc etc etc.

Let's keep it that way... we usually get just enough snow for it to become a PITA, nothing more. All that the little snow we get does is create a mess with the sludge, hear about people's stories driving for 10 minutes to work/school all day, and give something for TV stations to talk about.

I think his main complaint is about the poor level of service and lack of management. We have no reason to throw money at things just because someone expects it - if they do a good job then ok, sure, congratulations and keep up the good work. Until that happens, what do we get out of paying for something like that?

And?

Why should people without children pay for schools? Why should people without cars pay for roads?

Aren't school funding already as low as it already is?
Two elementary schools in my district have to close and a secondary school has to be relocated to save 3 million dollars... Schools have to recycle paper because they are always low on paper. Teachers are still being laid off as well due to lack of budget. My district even fired their superintendent ON THE SPOT at a teachers meeting because they blamed him for all the budget problems. But that doesn't mean he was fully responsible for it.

Don't people without cars STILL use roads? By using bicycles, taking the bus, an indirect or direct way of using the roads. Sidewalks can also be a part of road management.

As for Seattle as worst drivers, overall, Washington is 6th in the least amount of deaths per capita in the 2003 (or 2004) statistics. Also, us Washingtonians are also one of the most knowledgeable, and one of the most courteous drivers in the USA. The only problem with those statistics are... how much of it did Seattle drivers contribute to those statistics?

But in other news, the ice are still on roads, so it might be inevitable for another snow day. 🙂 Plus the fact the temperature will still be below freezing temperatures, the DOT would really have to pull a miracle to get ALL the ice off... or most of the main roads...

Hypothetically, we have some debt to society (whether we're having kids or not) since we were the recipients of benefits previous generations brought to us. Plus, arguing that people without cars shouldn't pay for roads because they use the roads as much as anyone - public transit, supply lines (trucks and stuff) for food, etc.
