I just went snowboarding yesterday and I am begining to like it. Yesterday was my second time and I was thinking about getting a snowboard. I was wondering which board I should get for around $250 - $300 bucks. Thanks.

You certainly don't live on the East coast. It was the first November in recorded history where Buffalo got through the whole month without snow. It was 71 on Saturday here in Philly. The ski resorts are starting to get nervous!

Unfortunately, $300 is a very low amount to spend on getting all the snowboard gear you will need to be up and riding.

Boards cost between $200-$600.
Bindings cost between $100-$250.
Boats cost between $100-$250.
Jackets/Pants/Gloves cost a bunch too, but you can make do with non-snowboard specific at the start. But if you do get serious about riding, you will want to get these.

If you up your budget for the above to around $500 you can get a good starter setup. Your best bet would be to find the local snowboard shop and have them deck you out. And then go to another shop just to be sure (some shops push certain brands even if they aren't that good). But a local shop is best for determining a setup due to the variables in snowboarding (your height/weight, riding style, local condition - powder/ice, etc...)

the 250-300 is just for the board. I would probably spend around 500 on everything.

also which type of binding should I get? I like the step-ins since they are easier to take the boots off the board.

I would recommend Burton's step in system.. my grandpa died last year and left my grandma some cash. She knew i needed new equipment after 4 years of boarding on old, used stuff, so she sent me some money to get new stuff :D

I got everything I ever wanted.

Soloman w5 board
Burton Mission SI bindings
Burton Zone SI boots
A nice helmet.

The Burton SI system is so nice. I love my gear.

Because you are new to snowboarding I would recommend picking up some good used gear. Head out to your local Eastern Mountain Sports or something like it where they rent equipment and see if they have any older stuff ( a few years ) that isn't too beat up that they would be willing to part with. I got my first board that way and it served me really well for 4 years until i finally got good enough. It's like learning to race cars, you can't just start off in turbocharged Porsche, you gotta start small and work your way up. Plus the more expensive/advanced gear is less forgiving. Make one mistake on an advanced board and you could be eating snow. That is why I would recommend something fast (not too fast ;)), with really good control.

Snowboarding is so great! I can't wait for the mountains here (New England) to get snow!

oh yeah. stay away from step-ins. they may be easy/convenient to use, but you don't have the same balance/control as strap-ons.

first off, what and where is Ski Dazzle? Am I missing something!

if you want good prices for a board/binding combo and don't mind somewhat used equipment, then get demo stuff
if your really lucky, you might be able to get a display board, last years model that was on display but now the shop wants to get rid of
new models from last year may also be discounted

finally you can try rentals

went down to wolf creek in colorado for thanksgiving and purchased the atomic beta carve 9.18 with bindings for $200 (not kidding!)
although they were rentals they look like brand new skis

im sure vail/breckenridge/aspen/beaver creek or some of the other major ski resorts have specials on there webpages for rental/older model snowboards

i just got back from the mountain last nite, man it's awesome. i've never boarded in such harsh conditions, it was snowing harsh the entire time. i think i'm going to have to invest in a new face mask, the one on my jacket just wasn't enough :) powder like mad though, i got stranded at one point and had to hike forever (prolly just seemed like forever when trying to get out of waist-deep powder).

if you're getting serious, a season pass'll save you a wad of cash. at kirkwood lift tickets are $52/day, i got my season pass for $200. in the end you'll prolly be spending more on tickets than equipment, equipment's only a one time charge.

check out some of the sports stores on msn's passport cashback sale here, it's not the best selection but you might end up saving quite a bit, and you don't need specific brands and wear if you're just starting. the generic'll hold you fine until you really go all out. $500 worth of stuff for $400 isn't a bad deal, or $400 stuff for $320, it'll just come into your budget.

i'm in NorCal and the Bay Area, so Ski Dazzle isn't an option either =D good luck, have a great season ;)

I think 686 Enterprises apparel offers tremendous value. Their 2002 Smarty Excel jacket in red looks awesome.
