i just got back from the mountain last nite, man it's awesome. i've never boarded in such harsh conditions, it was snowing harsh the entire time. i think i'm going to have to invest in a new face mask, the one on my jacket just wasn't enough

powder like mad though, i got stranded at one point and had to hike forever (prolly just seemed like forever when trying to get out of waist-deep powder).
if you're getting serious, a season pass'll save you a wad of cash. at kirkwood lift tickets are $52/day, i got my season pass for $200. in the end you'll prolly be spending more on tickets than equipment, equipment's only a one time charge.
check out some of the sports stores on msn's passport cashback sale
here, it's not the best selection but you might end up saving quite a bit, and you don't need specific brands and wear if you're just starting. the generic'll hold you fine until you really go all out. $500 worth of stuff for $400 isn't a bad deal, or $400 stuff for $320, it'll just come into your budget.
i'm in NorCal and the Bay Area, so Ski Dazzle isn't an option either =D good luck, have a great season
