Snowboarders Here?

Any snowboarders on AT? Just wondering as I started last year. All of my friends, GF, and I have really gotten into it this past year and it's been awesome! A real good way to bond when you get a cabin to get drunk in after a long day of snowboarding =).

I just picked up new bindings last night to replace my aged burton customs (up for sale).

Current setup:

04/05 M3 Discord
04/05 Ride SPi
Unknown Burton Boots

I can snowboard, but I don't snowboard. As in, if you gave me a snowboard, I could get down a mountain fairly quickly, but I don't regularly go snowboarding. In fact, it's been over a year easily. If i didn't have to travel for hours, rent equipment etc etc I'd probably do it more. Good old UK.

i have a burton 152 terje haakonsen signature board for pipe and parks and a burton 161 supermodel for free-riding. also have burton free-ride bindings and carbon-fiber burton x-bindings.

also, have some burton freestyle boots.

I've snowboarded for nine years now, on average about 30 times a season. I broke my board in half at the beginning of this season and due to lack of funds haven't gotten a new one so this season seems to be a wash for me. My knees are thanking me for the much needed time off though. I thought millenium three went out of business are you sure your board is from last year?

Yeah..they were bought out by another company but the original founder still worked with them for awhile.... Now him and the rest of the gang started M4 (millenium four =/). So hoping to see their new line...

http://www.boardzone.com/snow/shop/snowboards/m3/2005-discord/ Mine is white though

Should've known I'd get this many replies from AT while the dating one makes 4 pages in 15 minutes..

I've snowboarded since 5th grade... I'm a freshman in college now. I love it, it's definately something I'll do for the rest of my life, nothing more exhilarating then flying down a mountain hitting natural jumps and dropping from ledges... I love it. Not only do you get the thrill of going down a mountain, but you get to see so much beautiful scenery while you're doing it.

I currently have a Burton Canyon, Burton Custom Stepins, and Burton Carbide boots.... I love the board, with the right wax, I can beat most anyone down a hill/mountain.

Man...I haven't strapped a board on since 1999. Just haven't had a chance to get out there since then. I miss the hell out of it. My neighbors used to Ski Patrol at Loveland, so they'd give me free rides up on weekends and hook me up with lift tickets all the time. I used to spend almost every weekend snowboarding throughout the season when I lived in Colorado.

Exactly =)

I always want to bring my G5 up to take pictures from atop the mountain, but I would never risk that baby...

I have been snowboarding for about 4 years now. I only get to go about once or twice a year though. Just got back from Snowbird. Man it was a lot of powder there. I don't have my own board yet so I demoed a Burton Custom X.

Any tips for a beginner? I've only gone snowboarding twice and I'm still on the bunny slopes ... I can go down without a lot of stopping but what I can't get is going side to side facing the mountain, I can do it with my back to the mountain but not the other way around ... any tips on how I can get that down or how I can 'graduate' to harder slopes? 🙂

My Burton bindings were pretty nice, and they didn't break, but that brand just screams $$$. I don't think I would ever purchase their stuff at a store.

The first time I went my friends took me down the bunny slopes once and after that they took me on the greens. It was pure chaos. So I was forced to learn how to stop. I think the first step is to learn how to stop yourself without falling (I guess just learning how to heel and toe side). It takes a while to get it so don't give up..

My tips for a beginner: Once you can stop, the easiest way to learn how to carve is go fast... In my early years of snowboarding, I found the faster I went, the easier it was for me to control the board.

rest of your life ehh, more like as long as your body allows. Just wait till you get your first big injury than you'll know what I mean. I have no feeling in my big toe and the first toe next to it from frostbite. My shoulder is messed up from being dislocated twice and my right knee pops like crazy when I walk. Most pro's don't make it past thirty especially when you hear about them having knee surgery every freaking summer.

True

Yeah, I went like about 8 or 10 times this season and I could feel the havoc on my body. More specifically my knees.

i once rode The Wall at Kirkwood (near Lake Tahoe). It was one of the most exhilarating experiences i've ever had. Soft snow, both falling and on the ground, clear of all the crowd, steep and long run. It was amazing being able to just point your board down and let loose without having to worry about running into people, falling, or making sharp turns. Just ride...

I've been boarding for about 3 years now, but have been a skier for over 15. For truly enormous slopes, I stick to skis, but for smaller local slopes, I enjoy boarding.
