I just found that myself last week. I think I was browsing through the Internet Archive. That's a really cool machine. It looks practical, even by today's standards. I wonder why it didn't take off...

i bet they shot the horse after getting it stuck

I thought it was funny too. They knew it was going to get stuck, as that is why they were filming. then they kept smacking it thinking that slapping a horse would get it magically unstuck...

One poster makes a good point though; other thans transportation of people (1 or 2) could it really pull a heavy load with slipping?

It did, pulled two carts full of logs. I don't know how heavy it was, but for the time frame, I am sure that was a lot. I think you could see the slippage, but it was pulling just fine.

I think also part of the benefit of the design was the "shoes" could be replaced with standard tractor tracks for summer. They did have a section though that showed the machine at work in a field of hay or something. I would imagine the wear and tear on the snow shoes on dirt and rock would be too much, but seemed to work well regardless.

They also put it on a Chevy automobile and drove around in that also.

They show it pulling a sled of logs. About 20 tons... That's damned good pulling power.
