What the sam-hell did Apple do to OpenGL performance? It's not like Mac OS X was blazing in the first place, but they've actually managed to make it significantly slower.

What makes you say that it is slower? I am not defending, I am curious of the test and want to see if I can replicate it on my end.
Phoronix did some testing with the Mac version of their test suite: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.p...x_106_benchmarks&num=4

It's consistent with testing users have been doing with other things such as XBench. OpenGL performance is noticeably slower across the board.

Huh, that really is strange to see. I wonder what could have caused that... let's hope that 10.6.1 fixes that

Has anyone tried to perform a clean install then a restore from a 10.5.x Time Machine backup? Would that work?
It'd be a gigantic pain in the butt to have to redo my iTunes library.

BTW does QuickTime X have all the features of QT7 Pro? I bought Pro and would like to keep using some of the export features 🙁

If doing an upgrade, and you have QT7Pro installed.. it will keep it on your system. It will just move it to the Utilities folder.

If doing a clean install, you have to choose it in the Customize section of the Install.

Install 10.6 and iTunes. Launch iTunes then quit. Now copy your old iTunes folder over the 10.6 iTunes folder and all your music, videos, playlists, etc. should be there the next time you launch iTunes. Worked fine for me.

Is anybody else noticing their computer running hotter under SL? (Macbook Pro v4.1, 2.5 Ghz)
I'm not noticing it. 13" MacBook Pro 5,5 (2.26 GHz)

Then again I didn't actually measure temps. What software are you using for temp monitoring?

Not noticing anything with the temp on my MBP 13" either.

I have experienced a few display issues though.

I use an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard with my MBP (lid closed) part of the time, and the first time I went back to the laptop display the desktop was solid blue instead of my normal desktop and the menu bar had some funky colors going on. It turns out that I could drag around an open window (like a brush) and 'paint' the proper desktop back that way. It seemed to work fine after that.

The other issue is with the translucent menu bar... I'm not sure what circumstances caused it, but yesterday evening I noticed that my menu bar was opaque. It was translucent right after the initial install of SL, and I double checked to make sure the translucent menu bar button was ticked and it was. I had to re-boot to get the translucent menu bar back. It was translucent when I left for work this morning, I'll have to see what it's doing tonight when I get home.

The only negative thing I've noticed thus far is my Weather widgets doing just about whatever they please if I put my MBP to sleep and wake it back up later. I open up Dashboard and they're EVERYWHERE!

Hmm, it seems Snow Leopard won't work in 64-bit mode on the Macbooks and MacMinis. What a ripoff. Is it too late to return it?

All apps that are 64 are 64 bit. The core of the OS is 32bit though. You don't see an improvement? I def do on my Macbook.

The improvements are minor. Don't mind my rants though. I get like that when I'm frustrated. 😛

I've noticed one problem that has cropped up. The battery seems to have gone all screwy on my Macbook. It now always indicates that the battery is charging and now it's come up with a message in the battery menu that the battery needs service. It's also having trouble calculating my battery life. I never had any problems with it before I installed 10.6. Anybody else experiencing this? It's a Late 2008 Unibody vanilla Macbook, specs in my sig.

Flash works fine

PSA: the flash Snow Leopard installs is an older version (and fucked up in FF anyway). Make sure to upgrade to the latest version

Upgrade over Leopard on my MacBook (2.2 C2D, upgraded to 2GB RAM), and it feels a little smoother and snappier. Freed up about 6GB of hard drive space too. Only issues I've had are InsomniaX not working and iStumbler.

Okay, just got done installing it over Leopard on my MBP. The install was pretty smooth and everything seems to be working great right now.

Few things:
1. It defaults to the 32-bit kernel. Boot while holding down the "6" and "4" keys and you'll get 64 bit if your EFI is capable of it. To check, click on the apple menu, about this mac, more info, then the Software heading (with the arrow) and see if 64 bit kernel and extensions is yes or no.
2. You can edit the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist file to force 64 bit on every boot by changing

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string></string>

to

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>arch=x86_64</string>

I just did this on mine and it works.

Still haven't played with quicktime X yet though. Looking forward to it.

I also haven't started on the snow leopard retail hack for my hackintosh. That might take a little while.

It won't let me save the file. 🙁
