I'll assume the smile is meant in good faith since in the first 8 months we have seen expansion to s-chip, credit card reform, equal pay legislation, and a monstrous stimulus bill among others. That obama and the dems haven't also managed in the first 8 months of Obama's term to pass comprehensive health care reform, something that has been repeatedly attempted and failed over last 40 years, is hardly supportive of a claim that the dems have done nothing. Clearly, they have a lot left on the agenda to do to please the base or meet their campaign promises, but let's see what gets done over the next couple years.

I would note it's somewhat amusing watching the stimulus and healthcare negotiations where the critique was "what's the hurry? why can't we take time to do this right?" being made simultaneously with "dems don't get anything done."

I almost feel it for Obama- it isn't like he is not trying to accomplish things- he is just being blocked. However, that is why we have a system of checks and balances. So in some sense, it shows the system works somewhat. Of course, if nothing ever happens, then the system is working too well for its own good.
