Sniping a Domain?

I bought a domain yesterday, but I had to go with .net... while searching, though, I noticed that the .com version of my domain expires at the end of this month. are there any services that would allow me to grab the domain at, like, 12:00:01 am if the current owners don't renew it?

not to mention, is it even legal or would I have to worry about the current owners suing me or something? I checked out the domain/whois info, and it doesn't look like it's being used for anything (front page 404's), but you never know...

be ready to wait a long time. after it expired you have to wait 60 if not 90 days for it to be available.

You do realize that their is a lengthy hold time on the domain right?
Shouldn't an Elite be able to differentiate properly between "there" and "their"? 😛

Yeah, I thought there was something like that on top the fact that they could renew the domain anytime before it expires. You could try godaddy or something, but it may not work. And if it's a business name you could be sued for the domain.

EDIT: If the page isn't up at the moment though you don't need to worry about being sued.

Just a warning though... I'm with Register.com and they have kept my domain name for 2 months so far after it expired as a "grace" period. I don't want to use them anymore because of their higher prices. (I originally registered it on thier 5 year deal in 1999.

WTF does Elite status have to do with grammar?

If you really want it, backorder it with GoDaddy.

You can back order domains but that doesn't guarantee you'll get it. And most domains are held for a period of 45 to 60 days after the expiration date during which time the original owner can still register it, but that depends upon the registar.
